Hi there,
I'm not certain if this belongs here or in "link-core" but feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.
Allow me to announce the birth of a new tokusatsu-based magazine, Men In Rubber Suits. Production is underway. No definite street date, but it will be out sometime during the first quarter of 2014.
Let me tell you a little about myself, as editor of this endeavor. I'm no newcomer, I've been around the block. In the past, I've written articles and more for G-Fan, Kaiju Review, Famous Monsters of Filmland and Monster Attack Team, among others. I never do anything half-assed. There is a definite intent with this magazine to make it the best thing anyone has ever seen - both in terms of visuals and contents. I've also been employed as a graphic designer for the past 15 years with multiple industry awards - I know what I'm doing.
The focus of this publication will be tokusatsu and tokusatsu alone. No anime, no music, no video games, etc - just Japanese live action SF/fantasy movies and TV shows. Everything from kaiju movies to metal heroes, super sentai, kamen riders, giant robots, you name it.
And within those parameters, we will feature:
A. WHAT'S HOT - The newest TV shows and films from Nihon. The crazy, groovy stuff that all the kids are into these days.
B. WHAT'S OLD - Revisiting the standbys - all the way back to the beginning of genre. Shedding light on the classic stuff to both illuminate the whippersnappers and keep the older fan base happy.
C. WHAT'S UNKNOWN - Obscure, forgotten classics and new stuff that's fallen through the cracks, you'll find it all here.
I can't stress this enough - I want this to be the best thing anyone has ever seen. I have a definite vision for what I'm doing, and it's going to be impressive. I already have about 75% of my material for issue 1.
I want to make this a print magazine, but I may have to acquiesce to budgetary concerns and start out as a digital publication. I'll know more for certain as publication looms closer.
If anyone has any ideas for what they'd like to see, or if anyone has any interest in contributing, drop me a line. I could use:
1. high quality (as close to 300 dpi as possible) photographs
2. articles by people who know their stuff
and most importantly of all:
3. translation assistance.
There's gonna be a big need for material translated from Japanese into English, and that can be expensive. One translator quoted me $3000 for translating a Japanese wiki page. The magazine just isn't going to get done with that kind of overhead. I can make do, if I have to, with free online translation services, they only do so much. Somebody who would be willing to translate in return for comp issues or for a percentage of profits would be optimal.

, and Local Heroes (you keep hearing the term, but don't quite know what's out there). Also, focus on the Toku Dreamers (like those behind the MMPR Fan Film, etc).
