Never Stop! Changeman Discussion Thread

I've just gotten to episode 30. Poor Pegasus! I don't even really like horses much normally, but that was sad. 8( Never thought I'd see that in Sentai :O_O:

the saddest episode in Changeman (and most of sentai series i've watched so far). I only watch it twice, and I never want to watch it again 8(

Just got back into watching Changeman. I started it at the end of last year, got 3/4 through, forgot about it, and started watching it again when the DVD raws came out. Btw softsubs are available online, if anyone wants to match those with the new raws released by Bunny Hat.

I question why the community talks about Jetman and Liveman the most when it comes to old Sentai. When I first saw Jetman, I loved how different it was from the newer shows. It had a more serious tone to it. In my head, and probably others, that might have translated to that this show is better than any other sentai. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Changeman is just an overall more solid show than Jetman is. The story was better and more consistent. It has likable characters and the villians break the usual "bad guy" mold. They are more sympathetic. Besides the crappy mecha fights and weird filler, Changeman is a great show that does things that I've never seen sentai do before.

Episode 8 of Akibaranger was already totally awesome, but seeing the 52nd episode of Changeman (and therefore seeing the exact sunset fight scene Akiba was parodying) really did give me an extra layer of understanding that makes the tribute even better :anime:

Honestly, I think most of it is because those shows are subbed and, in the case of Jetman, have always been talked of as the greatest things ever. When Japan Hero was around, it seemed like Jetman was that place's favorite show and I think that got into the popular mindset. Though the lack of any real subs is still the problem. A lot of people just aren't comfortable watching a show raw, which you can't blame them for at all. This does lead to some great shows being undervalued and not given enough discussion as some might think they deserve.

Personally, I love Changeman, it's way up there as my third favorite Sentai. It's a ton of fun and while it takes a good, long while before any episode-to-episode narrative kicks in, the episodic nature of the show is one that I can enjoy. There are a few episodes out there that I just don't like at all, but those are literally two episodes out of 55 that I didn't enjoy.

And it's got this awesome cast that works so well with each other. For as hardcore and serious as they can be described, they also provide the viewer with amusing moments like this:

Well I was watching the Dead Fish sub. I haven't heard anything bad about their (his?) subs, though as I can't speak Japanese all I can say is that it seemed to match up with the visuals just fine. But it's one of those subs that seems to turn up on torrent or dll for a couple of weeks at a time and then disappears again, which is probably why it's not been more widely seen. If it was on KRDL everyone would know about it. I was alternating between this show and Liveman, and IMO the two are just as good as each other. Probably a bit out of the comfort zone for anyone who's only used to Sentai from within the last decade, but good solid fun. :anime:

We must fight to the death...FOR ALIEN CANDY!!! Yeah, that episode made me chuckle.

Finally started this back up again.

Ahames' appearance was treated as a big shocking moment, but the trailer for the episode shows her and mentions her by name as being in this episode.

I don't get what they were trying to do, there.

Toei seems to not understand the concept of previews back then, I think:sweat:. It should just show tidbits and just enough to get the viewers excited and maybe provide a misdirection, not spoil the big plot twist that happens in the episode. And when they do a misdirection, it's basically bullshitting the audience.

Happens in Maskman regarding Igam and Ial.

Jetman has an episode title "Gai Dies!". It's in the late teens, and yes, it's a bold-faced lie.

Burai's death in Zyuranger is pretty much spoiled by the previews.

Dairanger had it worst, I think. If you ever watch it, never watch the previews. Ever.

Not toku but if you're watching Mobile Suit Gundam for the first time, I'd suggest not to watch their previews either -- otherwise, you get this in your face (Granted, I still thought it was a powerful moment but....):
