If you're looking for hidden gems in stop-motion, I highly recommend checking out "The Boxtrolls." While it has its fans, it often gets overshadowed by other Laika films like "Coraline." The craftsmanship is stunning, especially in how they bring the quirky characters and unique world to life. The storytelling is rich and layered, with a lot of heart, which is a hallmark of great stop-motion.
Another one to look out for is "Anomalisa" by Charlie Kaufman. It's a bit more adult-oriented but uses stop-motion in such a compelling way to explore themes of loneliness and connection. The voice work from Jennifer Jason Leigh and David Thewlis is just incredible, adding depth to an already unique visual experience.
