After decades of being ignored, Jason’s dear mother finally seems to be getting her turn in the spotlight. A Friday the 13th prequel series is in the works with Pamela Voorhees as its main villain, but if that’s not enough, NECA is also making a towering tribute to Camp Crystal Lake’s ORIGINAL killer. Ultimate Pamela Voorhees stands at an intimidating 7 inches tall and comes with a full arsenal of weaponry: a knife, an axe, a machete, a bow and arrow and a broken oar. Her multiple interchangeable faces ensure that she has an expression for any situation. Pamela costs $35 and is on sale now, but NECA only plans to offer the figure for a limited time. Who the hell wants a psychotic middle-aged woman as an action figure? Seriously, out of all the horror icons, this is the one people are hyped about? She’s not even cool or scary-looking, just some angry mom in a sweater with kitchen tools. Imagine lining up all your slasher figures—Freddy with his claws, Michael with his mask—and then there’s Pamela, looking like she’s about to scold someone for not washing their hands. I don’t get the hype.

Honestly, I think this release is long overdue. Pamela was the original killer, and she has one of the most interesting motivations. This figure seems like a respectful nod to her legacy. But I wish NECA would do more than just re-releases and figures. Maybe they could collaborate on a mini display diorama of Camp Crystal Lake, or give us more characters from the original movie. Still, this is a good start, and I’m glad to see them thinking beyond Jason for once.

This is a major win for horror history. Too often, Pamela is treated like a footnote, but she’s actually the whole reason the franchise exists. I love that the figure includes not just the usual slasher tools like the machete and knife, but also a bow and arrow—that’s deep cut stuff right there. It shows someone did their homework. The window box packaging also means I can display it without unboxing, which is a plus for me. I really like NECA’s attention to detail with these.

I think it's nice they’re doing something for Pamela, but NECA has done limited releases before and it usually turns into a mess. People grab them all and then resell them online. If they know she’s important to fans, why not make more? I do like the idea of her joining the others on the shelf, but only if I can actually get her without paying double.

$35 for this figure feels fair. The weapons and extra heads make it worth the money. I don’t collect everything NECA makes, but I’ll get this one. It’s good that they’re giving Pamela more attention now.
