NBA 2012/13 Season Discussion Thread

ESPN was talking about it...even stating if that was even possible.

.....and he's only the assistant..imagine how he'll gog off if/when he becomes head.

Yeah, I hate when that happens. You're guarding one person and then all of a sudden the arrow switches telling you to guard the original person.

Any reactions to the news story about Dwight wanting Kobe to pass the "torch" to him. Dwight wanted a clear answer as to when he'll be the main man, but Lakers management said there isn't. I mean it is what it is as he's going the Rockets, but you just don't get passed the torch, you have to earn it.

Kobe will retire when he wants to. He's been a Lakers for 17 years. You can't make him stop playing. Dwight will never be the main man on a team. He's not going to be able to handle it like in Orlando.

Yea, honestly MyPlayer has a good amount of head-scratchers, but I'll touch on that later. lol

If Dwight word for word, said something along the lines of that then I would say that's pretty sad. Do what you have to do when you get the ball and all is well, the accolades will come after and the respect will come before you know it. Why the hell would he feel he needs Kobe's approval?

Btw, were the Warriors and Rockets his only choices or could he have went anywhere had he given more thought? Because I think his decision to go to the Rockets was mucho bad.

I don't know. I'm not really following it in depth, just whatever is on espn

And I haven't really seen the Rockets play, but doesn't Harden usually need to have the ball in his hands to make him effective? When he was in OKC, I would see him at the top of the key and he would do his thing and drive to the lane. Dwight no happy when Dwight no get ball in his hands for a possession, like last year.

I'm pretty sure the Rockets are going to run a lot of pick and roll plays with Dwight, and I heard that Dwight wasn't fond of that last year.

Dwight has no post moves. He wants to play like a true center, but he doesn't have any effective moves in the post like Shaq or any of the other traditional centers, past or present. I always cringed when he got the ball in the post. It usually ended up him getting fouled, or fumbling, or getting stripped.

No reliable hook and he can't shoot anything that isn't a dunk, making most of his fakes useless. Plus, he can't shoot free throws. I really wonder what deluded him to thinking he's worth what he thinks he is. At least when other players played Diva, it made sense.

Emeka Okafor was really the better pick between them.

Or maybe Howard's doing his best impression of a heel turn.

Exactly, he sincerely really doesn't have a move in his arsenal. Not his own or even borrowed. Someone else mentioned "The Dream", even Kobe practiced with Hakeem. If he wants to get approval from a great like Kobe why not learn from him first?

I feel like he would have thrived on the Nets, the Bulls, or the Warriors. Even if he wasn't a big factor he'd at least get a ring, which he claims he wants.

I remember before the start of last season that Dwight met with Kareem after he got traded to the Lakers. They spoke and Dwight said he wanted to learn a few things from Kareem and Kareem was happy to do so. But recently Kareem came out saying that that meeting was the only time that Dwight and him met....

Really Dwight? You didn't want to learn from Kareem....? And you didn't want to learn from Kobe, a five time champion and bunches of accolades....? He had better go to Hakeem soon or he's a fool. His game is so stagnant, it's been the same for a while. Dwight thinks that his strength will get him far, there's no finesse.

The thing I'm peeved about is that Dwight said he didn't feel like he was embraced while he was in LA. Come on, really? I was excited when he got traded, as was probably everyone else. But the Lakers wasted a first round pick for a one year rental. I honestly hope that the Rockets do terrible next year. Maybe that will make Dwight understand that he needs to work on his game. It's mediocre at best against good defense. It probably won't though.

Likewise. I don't even need to hope the Rockets end up slacking, realistically it just looks like it will happen.

James Harden is one of the best SG's in the NBA, when Dwight joins the Rockets he will only get better, it's a good time to be a Houston fan. I do think he has maturity issues, but Kevin McHale should keep him in line

I think the Brooklyn Nets are going to be a bust. Everyone is old and past their prime, Deron Williams is the only real star on the team

I still think Miami is the best team in the NBA, and are on their way to a 3-peat. The only team I see competing with them is the OKC Thunder

He could have gone anywhere but the Rockets and Warriors were the only ones that could have created enough cap room without discarding major key players that could give him a MAX level contract.

I am a Rockets fan and I personally didn't want the guy. But we are almost stuck with him so one can only hope that after all the hype and backlash he has endured since he started trying to get out of Orlando that so that he doesn't become a distraction and is able to reach his Defensive Player of the Year performances of years back.

I don't know. I think it might hinder Harden's growth if Dwight's there. Harden needs to handle the ball a lot to create shots for this teammates. Dwight is the hypothetically the best center in the league. If he's not involved, then he's not going to give 100 percent on that possession if he's just standing there while Harden does what he does best.
