N00b Kamen Rider Question

Okay, last year before my computer crashed (and I didn't even know the history of Kamen Rider), I was downloading this manga from Snoopy Cool called Kamen Rider Spirits, and I just have one question:

What the **** is it?

It's a Gaiden (Side Story) that tells the aftermath of all the Riders from Ichi-go to ZX and their adventures. One of the main characters is this detective that is a self proclaimed "Kamen Rider" and dresses up in biker leathers with a skull designed helmet to fight against monsters.

Although he doesn't have any real powers, he makes up for it by making a shotgun shell gauntlet for his Rider Punch and some boots that generate electricity for his Rider Kick. Despite his coolness, he still gets his ass whupped.....that is until out of nowhere, Hongo Takeshi appears...

Last I checked, it's somewhere around 10 volumes long I think. Not sure if it's still running.

It's Taki Kazuya, a character from the original series, and the "Rider" costume he makes is an homage to Ishinomori's Skull Man. I thought that was a really cool touch, bringing Taki back (he's like the proverbial great grandaddy of sidekicks like Ichijou or Kagami)

It's basically a greatly expanded retelling of the Kamen Rider ZX story, set a little more in the present (I think, they have e-mail, did we have that in 1984? :laugh: ) And there are TONS of references and nods to the earlier TV series (the original~Super-1) and a couple ideas that for many years just existed in offscreen limbo (the story of how Riderman survived, all the MIA Badan Kaijin, what happened to [Insert Character Name], etc) finally get to see the light of day, so of course it's like a dream come true for me.

Spirits is still going strong in the monthly Magazine Z. I downloaded the first translated chapter waaaaaaay back, did that group ever do any more?

That far? Whoa, I remember reading they had to drop it and all other Kodansha-released titles when that company complained, but I guess they were able to keep doing it anyway.
