My own Super Sentai appreciation thread

Forgive me if an appreciation thread was all ready made and I didn't see it. I am just making this thread for those who are or have been enjoying Super Sentai. There are times I actually enjoy it more than Kamen Rider. Does that make me strange? :sly: Anyways, just feel free to share any random thoughts about anything Super Sentai related. If you must mention Power Rangers, please only talk about them in comparison to their Japanese counterparts.

I really like the music they make for Super Sentai. One thing that never gets old for me is the songs they make for the giant mecha in Super Sentai. Sure, the ED themes in Go-Onger all shared the same melody, but the theme songs for Engin-Oh, G6, G9, and G12 never get old for me. And say what you will about MagiRanger, but I loved that series, and I loved the song "Unite Five Majin! Change into MagiKing!" Makes me feel like a powerful titan is rising into battle to kick some butt! And for some reason, I can't help but find the song "Fly Out! Ultimate Daibouken" strangely haunting and very memorable. It often creeps into my head just out of nowhere, and I'll be singing to myself before I even realize I want to hear it again...

Speaking of songs, anyone notice how a number of Super Sentai songs bear similarities to other songs? The song "Start Up! ~Kizuna~", as others have said in the past, is pretty similiar to "Eye Of The Tiger". Going back to Go-Onger, the song "G9! Tune Up", doesn't that kind of remind you of the Van Halen song "Dreams"? Anyone? And lastly, forgive me for only using songs from resent Sentai, but I heard a song from the Shinkenger vocal soundtrack called "Dokomademo Shinkenger", and the riff at main chorus (when the singer is singing at the top of his lungs) reminds of another song I've heard somewhere, but I can't quite put my finger on it... Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

EDIT: Forgot to mention how I also get a real kick out of GaoMuscle's theme song.

I also hope I'm not the only one who likes both old school and new school Super Sentai. I really do like both. I've seen GoRanger, OhRanger, Changeman, Sun Vulcan, and a few others, and I like what I saw. But at the same time, I still like new school Super Sentai. I guess it's cause I just have an open mind and am willing to give both a try. I hate seeing people divided in their fandom just because of things like that. After all, regardless of what age these shows were made it, they are all still just Kid/Family shows.

Echi, I appreciate you for appreciating Sentai. It brings tears to my eyes. lol Plus no, you're not strange for enjoying it more then Kamen Rider. The haters might say you are, but you're not.

Sentai is great!

I likes the "old school" better... But i think Dekaranger is very good and i like some episodes of the new shows.

Thanks Kivat, judasamigo, and Forever Knight!
Come on, people! Don't let this topic die. Even if you only have questions about a super sentai series that have been asked a billion times.

I still wish I could recognize that riff from the main chorus of Dokomademo Shinkenger... It kind of reminds me of Miss Independent by Kelly Clarkson, but that might not be it... Still feels like it reminds me of a different song...

Also, what's up with the similar naming scheme for the giant mechas in Super Sentai? Shinken-Oh. Engine-Oh. MagiKing. Abaren-Oh. Why are they calling their mechas kings? Only a few times does that title ever actually fit. Like for example, DaiZyuJin (Great Beat God) from ZyuRanger. That makes sense. The robot dinos in that show were guardians beast gods. DaiZyuJin even looks like a king when you look at his head design (it's almost crown-shaped, right?). For other mechas, it just seems kind of like a weird name to have. Am I right?

Bump.

Am I the only one who likes the character themes? You know, those songs that the lead characters sing themselves for the vocal albums. Not ALL of them are good, but some are surprisingly good, catchy, and sometimes hilarious. I love it!

Nope, you're not the only one!

Heck, I just love Sentai music in general. Including the background music.
