I don't really know anything about Japanese hip-hop, but for rock you could always try out bands like:

Asian Kung Fu Generation (which you probably have)
Dir en Grey
BUCK-TICK
Psycho le Cemu
Guitar Wolf
Melt Banana
the pillows
Glay
The Yellow Monkey
BOØWY

If you're interested in more of the punk/hardcore scene, there's:

Asbestos
Cruck
Lipcream
Idiot Idolater
The Rapes
Laughin' Nose
Bastard
Cocobat
Disclose
Warhead
Slam Pirates
Nurse
KGGM
Gutter Snipe

There's also some harder to classify/heavier bands, like Balzac (Horrorpunk/Zombiecore), LMF (Cantonese Rap-Rock) Bathtub Shitter (Grindcore), and Sex Machineguns (Thrash-Metal). So I dunno, pick some.

I think it's Seotaiji is seperated, Seo and Taiji. I THINK. My parents knew him and said he was one of the best rockstars of his time, but I know he's still alive since he wasn't that old. :P

Wow. I feel old and I'm not even that old! So that will probably account for a difference in opinions.

Seotaiji was SO ridiculously popular when I was what...16? but they defined and was probably a harbinger of the way Kpop went.

As for The TRAX. -.-... Now they are TAX, seeing as how Rose Left.
It's sucha lame band... They could really of done better if they wernt so lame. Anyone know what TRAX Stands for? Typhoon Rose Attack on Xmas.
Each word(cept on) being a stage name for the band members. That's so lame.

I suppose this is a difference of opinion. They actually sounded somewhat an imitation of Linkin Park, (and I thought they were pretty good), but we can differ here. As for lame acronyms...I've heard worse, but it's definitely a publicity ploy and really, groups such as Finkl, SES, or DJ Doc had nobody to really work off of - they were the beginning of Kpop. Lame ploy? Possibly, but you gotta give them some credit for at least being memborable, which is what they went for as in FINKL, HOT and some semblance of functionality like SES (which stood for their names).

Leaving it at The Trax would of been just fine.. but acronyming it something lame just.. bleh. But I admit, their stuff isn't bad, just... not good? It's got the right influences for the kind of band it is, a VK K-Rock band, but I'm not a fan of Korean HipHop music and it's sub genres.

Fair enough.

Yoo Sung Jun was pretty sweet back when I was like 7... But really K-pop is overrated. It's all the same thing. You can tell its Korean Pop when the song starts off with the sparkling stars noise. :/

"sparkling stars noise?" Can you describe what that is and I bet I could tell you plenty that don't have this.YSJ is pretty old school and I doubt he performs anymore.

Speaking of Korean Music, the best stuff from Korea that isn't overrated, is all the stuff from the 70's-80's. It's sound is close to The Music styles of Detective Conan, With slow singing and trumpets and soft guitars. It's really nice and different from the stuff nowadays in Korea. I don't know too many band names since I get my hookup via my mom's car cd selection.

Haha, you're talking about the really old stuff. Eh well, you were talking kpop - that has been defined with a certain sound, style, and age group. (although that last can be contested). I think it just goes to say, that just looking at Gayo Top 10 doesn't really speak for the breadth of Korean Music out there. Kpop, maybe. But watching other major concerts such as Open Music Night Concert (that's a very rough translation) would actually provide a much better idea to the breadth of stuff available.

But going on what Blue likes ie. bands we've both mentioned liking, I'd still say Buzz and Bulldog Mansion would actually be ok. They sound doa-ish. and Epik does both rock and hiphop. I'm not sure of his hiphop preference.

Aside from BOØWY, I've heard those bands before. What type of music does BOØWY do?

Slam Pirates
Nurse
The Rapes
Laughin' Nose
Gutter Snipe
Those were about the only ones I could find that I didn't already know about, I liked what I heard, so I might pick up some of their stuff if I can find it.

I've triped Buzz before and just heard Bulldog Mansion, some pretty good stuff. As for some of the hip-hop I like, stuff like m-flo, Rip Slyme, Soul'd Out, some Orange Range, Home Made Kazoku, Nitro Microphone Underground and Nujabes.

74'LESSON, Antic Cafe, Bomber Head, TRIBAL CHAIR, 69BUG, BOMB FACTORY, DaTURA and Davitz would probably be the type of band that I like in the indie/lesser known range.

A lot of their stuff is lighter rock, almost like glam/arena rock. Tomoyasu Hotei played guitar for them.

I'm nt sure abt this, bt do you think today's Glay's music is still as good as what they used to be, Bolt?

I have kind of a love/hate thing with Glay. I think they're good, but the majority of the time the way they write and arrange their music just doesn't appeal to me. But when they're good (like, Two Bell Silence good), they're great.

 ... got your point there ...

yah, their earlier hits like Two Bell Silence, Kanojo no Modern sounds good to me ... but as times goes by, I just feel that I can't enjoy their songs anymore ... up to their G4 single album ... was wondering whether is it just me who have this problem or not, that's why I'm asking for your view on Glay ... thanks ...

A lot of bands get stale with age or try to change their style to appeal to a wider audience or for whatever reason, that's probably what happened to them. I haven't heard much of their new stuff, but it's a challenge to think of any band that has kept a constant style throughout their entire careers.
