Michael Moore and The Gay Team vs. Westboro Baptist Church

Double post - Also that video was funny as hell, but sadly it doesn't actually solve anything. Phelps will still just think that fags and queers are nasty, barbaric, uncivillized dogs, just the same as the other bigots.

I'm really sorry you think I'm going to hell, Forgotten Transformation. I understand that is your opinion, and your parents sadly, probably raised you to believe that.

It's also a good thing I don't believe in hell!

Yeeeeah. I myself have never really agreed with huge PDA...but that's a matter of a double standard in this case. Naturally what Michael Moore did would be offensive to SOMEONE. He's always offending SOMEONE! And though I don't necessarily believe in shoving ANYTHING in ANYONE'S face no matter what the situation sometimes you just have to take the extreme route. Unfortunately that's the only way to get people to listen.

What the problem is is the lack of equality all around. If there wasn't prejudice there wouldn't be a need to hit back on it which then there wouldn't be a need for people to pull the whole "Why can't we have a straight pride parade?" sort of things. I'm not going to go on too much cause really, I could go one for a long time.

Basically, stop hatin'. Except for that Phelps dude. He's just mean. You can hate him. But not cause he's Christian. Cause he's mean.

Faded is correct.

I don't care what gays do it doesn't affect ME or my walk with God so therefore I'm totally fine with gays marrying and such.

"Practicing homosexuality."

That word, "practicing" has always irritated me in this context. As if gayness could be equated to working out, or playing sports, or some other specific action that you would routinely do in order to be gay.

Except there are abstinent gays. So, if an abstinent gay person is still gay, then does that make them non-practicing? If you classify gays like that, then what's the point of calling them gay in the first place? Especially if you lump them all into this great big surging mass of people that are all the same.

What's a practicing heterosexual?

That's a very good point. Personally I don't think there is anything such as 'practicing' homosexuality. You either are or you aren't. Maybe you are unsure what you are...be it completely straight, completely gay, or bi or just...not attracted to anything at all. You just are that. You don't practice heterosexuality (to my knowledge anyway) so why would you practice homosexuality?

Though if it were an actual term or what not...I would say practicing would therefore be just being gay. You have an attraction to the same sex...you embrace that. You are practicing.

Though that term practicing also bothers me in that context.

Eh, I've been practicing safe sex. I'm pretty good at it by now!

While I generally agree with Michael Moore's perspective, I usually disagree with his methods. This is not the case. Man, I would have loved to go along on that trip - the WBC deserves nothing but contempt.

Certainly, they're not Christians. However, keep in mind that Jesus Christ would be embarrassed of any so-called Christians out there who are intolerant of other children of God. Christians who don't accept and love their gay, bi, & otherwise different brothers and sisters are completely missing the message of Christ.

Agreed ODP.

And...being against someone of a different sexual orientation as yourself is a matter of personal choice. It may bother me when people are against it, but that's not my business. It's THEIR business and they're free for their opinion...

...to express your opinion constantly and crazily is another thing. Then you're just being silly...

...but to actually picket someone's funeral is just HORRIBLE. People are mourning someone and you're out there yelling at his loved ones that he is in hell because he's gay? It's complete BS and is disgusting. So yeah, as much as I don't agree with his methods often because Michael Moore can be very much in your face...that's the only way to deal with the WBC. If you tried to be diplomatic they would probably just say you are weak or a coward or something.

Unfortunately though Faded is right I think. This isn't going to stop the WBC. They are too strong in their 'beliefs' to let something like this stop them for good.

I watched a video in my Anthropology class called "Gay in middle America" and they picketed at this kids church...because despite the fact that his church was against his preference they still cared for him. They never really accepted that part of him unfortunately, but apparently by saying "we still love you" they were condoning HORRIBLE sins. *eyeroll* So yeah, they had signs like PFLAG hates kids and Thank God for Sept 11. Wtf. And the fact that they take their KIDS with them also disgusts me.

*takes a moment to calm down*

Probably shouldn't post about something that makes me emotional.

Unfortunately, the only lasting method we can use to fight ignorance and stupidity is education. And unforunately some people are willfully ignorant and resist expanding their worldview at every turn. These are usually the people (or sheeple of the people) who feel that they have something to lose by embracing the world around them.
