Meaning of DaiShi?

Ok now I'm confused, does it have two meanings or something?

Japanese has many meaning for a single syllable. The character itself has two separate sounds.

Well with Dai meaning "great" and lion meaning "Shishi" only thing I could think of is that they just shortened Shi and made it DaiShi. Or since in Gekiranger they just used the name of the rinshi and just made the leader aka DAI shi as like lord of all of them.

Someone clarify me if I am wrong, but...
獅子 - Shishi - Lion. Sometimes shortened too...
獅 - Shi. Still means lion.
四 - Shi - Four.

Different characters, similar pronunciations.


Also, as for the topic, I always thought DaiShi meant BigShi...t. As in that's what Power Rangers is! Nothing but a big pile of sh**! =D

It could be great lion. Translated "Great Lion" to Dà shīzi (大狮子) from english to chinese.

Most kikely they were going with the "Great Lion" translation, because as I understand it, that's the Cantonese translation. Also makes sense because the GekiRanger OP was filmed in New Zealand, and they had the lion motif suit for the villain, which could account for the name.
