Here's my take:

VR Troopers was a shoddy piece of crap -- I loved Spielban and knew how dark Metalder was, so I didn't really care for VR Troopers goofing it up. Their cheesy VR premise is a little reminiscent of Ryuki's cheesy mirror world, isn't it?

Masked Rider -- AWFUL, putrid mess. And I hate RX, so none of my hate traces back to it. I've seen high school newscasts with better production value. TJ Roberts has the talent and presence of a cat turd and I have no idea why they'd center a show on him.

Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad -- This show is awesomely bad! They seem know that they're a bad show, they don't take themselves seriously because they know they're a hack flying on the winds of PR. I've recently gotten to see Gridman, which I think is an awful, stuffy, cheap-o piece of crap, really. A cheesy, over-the-top guy with a fake British accent like Malcom is a much more threatening foe compared to the ten year old nerd in Gridman...

Beetleborgs -- The less said of this waste of space, the better...

Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills (I had to bring it up) -- Had the potential to be awesomely bad, but those steroid-abusin' heroes they transformed into creeped me the hell out. As did their masks, which reminded me of Miss America's from Battle Fever J, which is also creepy. Gransazer's glowing tattooes reminded me of this show -- actually, Gransazer's all around cheap production value and suckage are reminiscent of knockoff shows such as this. The only thing that kept me watching this show was that I had a crush on the green girl...and that I had to solve the mystery of whether or not that sack of crap mentor of theirs was Beetlejuice's Otho.

Question: Did you watch these shows as a kid, or are you looking at them for the first time now? 'Cause that would explain our difference in perspective.

I never watched TTAFFBH, but I the rest of those shows, save Masked Rider, I loved. Masked Rider pwned when it was a crossover with PR, once he got to Earth it sucked.

Oh Boy!!

The Masked Rider bashing continues!! But.. yeah, why not let it run?!!

One thing I have to admit is, I liked Saban's Masked Rider at the time, when I saw him on a 3-Part episode of Power Rangers. But later I started hating that show because the characters had really annoying voices. Not only TJ Robert's , but every single character's voice is annoying. Gork sounds like he wants to suck Nefaria's nipples, Count Dregon sounds like a gay posh British person, Ferbus.. oh I can't go on!! Also the theme music is annoying!!

But now that I've discovered Kamen Rider and watched Kamen Rider Black and RX, I now hate Saban's Masked Rider even more with a PASSION!! How dare they transform one of Japan's biggest icons into an American piece of crap!!* :170:

Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad - I liked this show at the time because the main character is called "Sam", which is also my real name!! I have yet to decide whether I hate the show now because it's been a long time since I last seen it. I have to admit that it's pretty cheesy though..

Big Ghey Beetleborgs - Hated the show at the time, still hate it now!! B Fighter is better!!

Tattoed.. TAFFBH - Crippity Crop Crap!! Nuff Said!!

VR Troopers - The only Power Rangers spinoff that I actually liked, and still do. It's, still a bit cheesy though, but so is every American TV Show now and again!!

I watched the majority of them when they aired -- which made me about 11 or so at the time.

What's funny is that a few years ago I came across an old tape of a few random VR episodes and a few of Superhuman Samurai...don't ask. I felt the same about VR, but that's when I determined Superhuman Samurai was awesomely bad. I hate to say that I did sort of like that show when it was on the air, it was stupid fun, and I'm glad it became "so bad you have to love it" as it aged. I'll petition a DVD release of that! :laugh: Come on, Matt Lawrence is almost a name, there should be some demand for that. Tim Curry did the voice of the villain, too! He's recognizable with a cult following, how'd they get him to participate? Wait, don't answer...he did do "McHale's Navy," afterall...

"Let's Samuraize, guys!" That's just so damn cheesy you can't help but love it, certainly the worst henshin phrase until "Maagi-magi-magiiro" came along.

The main character on Super Human SAMurai Syber Squad is Samuel "Sam" Collins...he was Naoto's counterpart.

Yea, I'll admit that back then (when I was like 8 or something) Masked Rider VR Troopers was some of my favorite shows (along w/ PR and my all time favorite cartoon The Real Ghostbusters). Looking back now, they were cheesy in their own right. And I still laugh at the thought that Jason David Frank wasn't "good enough" for VR Troopers at the time. lol And I remember that 3 part episode of PR with Masked Rider. Didn't he whooped the rangers butt? I can't remember.

I think that what hurt VR Troopers the most was that it tried too hard to be Power Rangers without actually doing anything different or unique. Wise mentor who never appears in person? Check. Goofy cybernetic pal? Check, in the form of a talking dog. Teenagers who fight evil and hang out at a youth center/cafe/dojo? Check. The list goes on and on.

And was anyone else confused by the whole "Virtual World" thing? I didn't know what the hell that was all about. I know, it was the early 90's and people didn't know as much about the internet and computers as they do now, but I didn't understand if the virtual world was a real other dimension, something created by computers, or the world within computers themselves. When they transformed, did they fight in the virtual world or the real world? It was just one big gravel pit to me.

I will commend that show for one reason: it had an interesting subplot unlike MMPR, the whole story about Ryan's father disappearing. That added a little extra drama and mystery to the whole show. Back then, I always wondered why the red/blue guy never fought together with the black dude and the woman. Now I know why, of course. :laugh:

Oh yeah, don't get me started on those weird-ass repainted Zyuranger helmets and spandex suits they would fly around in some other dimension with...

Dex's introduction as Masked Rider in "A Friend In Need" rocked. His own show was awfully bad. I have a tape with a few episodes on it buried around here somewhere. I'm debating whether I should dig it up and expose myself to it's awfulness again.
