Looking to Start a KR Figure Collection: A Few Q's

KamenRiderAsh

Ashes to ashes
Greetings, all! Recently discovered HJU, and haven't posted until today. Anyhow, I've got a few questions regarding opinions on figure collecting.

I mostly want to have a minimal collection of Kamen Rider figures for loose display, meaning no secondary Riders or special forms (ie. Kuuga Mighty/Red, Faiz default form, W Cyclone Joker).

I like what SH Figuarts has to offer in terms of detail, pose-ability, and extra display items, though they're a little pricey.

tl;dr / Cutting to the chase, is the general consensus around here that SH Figuarts is the best way to go for collecting Riders? Are there other manufacturers that you'd recommend? Also, I've seen the phrase "candy toy" thrown around. What's a candy toy, exactly?

Opinions and advice are appreciated!

While I can't really give a consensus on what figures to buy considering my lack of figures except for a few riders, I can say this, most of the S.H. Figuarts, although, pricey, are well worth it. However, if you want something less show-accurate, you could always get S.I.C figures which provide unique takes on the designs of the riders or Project BM! figures which are pretty show accurate as well.

As for the candy toy question, it's exactly what it sounds like, they're basically smaller to same size versions of toys that come with little bits of candy. For example, the candy toy O-medals for Kamen Rider OOO, which work on the OOO driver or the candy toy version of GoseiGreat which is again, a smaller version of GoseiGreat which comes with candy.... although they don't usually include the candy if you buy it and have it shipped to the U.S. because it spoils or something like that...

If you're going to buy Figuarts, here's a collector's advice. Get what you like, not everything in the series. It saves you money that way.

Agreed with the statement above completely. Only get what you like because if you start trying to get everything from the series you'll lose money faster. Unless you have deep deep pockets, then by all means go ahead spend, spend, and spend till your wallet dies. In terms of exclusives always get yourself a pre-order from one of the middle man or sites that we all talk about. You do not want to be going to ebay cause there are scammers and fees to deal with. Do not just buy one because everybody says it's cool or because it's a super limited release aka convention only unless you want to make money on that later. READ REVIEWS before investing or consult the various toy threads before investing just in case there is a major flaw with the figure that you want.

if you can't find it on HLJ, Cstoys, or a middle man, consult ebay they'll usually have something. bigbadtoystore.com has stuff too. anywho hope that can help you.

I would suggest going through the different threads that's here on HJU. We have the Figuarts, SIC, SIC Kiwami, Figma, and other Toku toy threads. You can peruse them and hopefully help you decide on what you want to go with. Each of them has their own unique charm. Good luck.

As far as stores, you can hit up Amiami, HLJ, Hobby Search, Big in Japan, Otacute, BBTS, and several others. Also, for some of the exclusive stuff, you can check with the middlemen - OkinawamToySeller, EX_Japan, and riderProxy.

Thanks for the input, all! I'm looking into Figmas as well as SH Figuarts. Not sure on which Rider I'll pick up first or from where I'll order, but I'll skip the candy toys in favor of the more detailed and pose-able ones. Much appreciated!

Not to be a nerd, but check out my site (link in my signature).

If you're only collecting main riders and money is no issue... one/sixth scale figures are the way to go.
