These are original theatrical featurettes, around 35 minutes long apiece, that were originally shown as part Toei's Manga Matsuri programs. There were two for KAMEN RIDER BLACK, this is the first one.

Let's see, as far as official HK Toku, there have been VCD sets of GIANT ROBO (1967-68), KAMEN RIDER (not the full series), KAMEN RIDER V3, SPACE IRONMEN: KYODYNE (1976-77), GIANT IRONMAN 17 (1977-78), KUUGA... of course, the various Ultra Series, old and new. As far as officially licensed DVDs, there has been the KR RYUKI movie, KR 555: PARADISE LOST (w/subs), the Heisei Ultraman movies and OVAs. Panorama previously released the theatrical featurettes in the new box set as individual releases a couple of years back... That's all I can think of.

Not the full series of KR? So a movie? And does that mean there's a set of part of the original KR roaming around that's subbed?

No. Only about 20-30 episodes of the original KAMEN RIDER were released on VCD in HK, not the full series. None of the VCD releases have English subs (Chinese subs are burned in). Please read my post again.

I did, actually, and you never said what language or how many eps. My asking about subs was just wishful thinking.

I'm not going to get into a debate over semantics, but when someone means partial series, it means "not complete". I didn't do an exact count, because as far as I am concerned, HK VCDs are unnecessary, since I already had the entire 98-episodes of the first KR on laserdisc for more than 15 years (now replaced with R2 DVDs) -- and VHS before that. So, I never needed to purchase any of the VCDs. But, Jason Lam, owner of the Kamen Rider V3 Home Page http://www.kamenrider.net/riderv3/ , told me that he was frustrated that they never released the entire first KR series on VCD in HK, even though they ran the whole series in the 1970s on television. Anyhow...

You would think that VCDs produced in Hong Kong would be in Cantonese. But, I guess I was assuming that in the US we would speak in English! Seriously, HK VCDs of Japanese shows are always in Cantonese (sometimes Mandarin) with optional Japanese audio, and burned in Chinese subs -- I thought that since these have been on the market for so long, in so many Chinatowns across North America (and other countries) that it would have been common knowledge. Apparently not. Sorry for not listing the specific details. Sometimes when you do something like that here, people post "We already knew THAT" or "OLD NEWS!"... Just goes to prove no one is ever happy.

Said it before: Wishful thinking. :anime: I knew what was logical, but you know, since there is so little material out subbed, I'm always hoping to find a "motherlode" of sorts.
