Keitai Sousakan 7 - Thoughts & Opinions

This was an unusual series but considering it was directed and produced by the master of the unusual, Takashi Miike, although it wasn't over the top unusual, but there was an interesting juxtaposition, because it combined the thrilling sort of high tech espionage action of a series like say '24', with the sort of teenaged soap drama you'd find on something like '90210', along with a dose of humor, and of course, mobile phones that can transform into tiny robots, there's an element of transformers in there as well.

I watched the first episode and I loved it, I haven't watched the rest of the series yet, so I'm wondering what others feel about the series overall.

I loved this show.
Great story, great action and nice acting.

Maybe it's only flaw is some complete "what the heck ?!" episodes.

worth the watch.

This was a great show. I've watched it a few times over. It had a combo of drama and comedy, like U_M said. Not to mention, any Double fans would like it because the actress that played Wakana is in it a few times. :169:

What. The series was nowhere near that overdramatic. The series did have drama, but it isn't your typical teen angst over rather unimportant reasons.

Personally, I think it's the best tokusatsu series to have been on TV since its airing. The characters were strong and funny, the directing style (and Miike only directed like, three episodes I think) was unique and all over the place. There were also those really bizarre episodes that you had to sit around and think about for a while like the fox lady two parter and the net ghost thing.

I was kind of upset that this didn't spawn a franchise at first, but not so much anymore. I realized that, unlike in other tokusatsu franchises, I didn't particularly get enthused over the whole walking-talking cellphones thing. It was the characters and the production of the show that made it feel fresh and absolutely wonderful to me. It would be pretty hard to capture that again.

I spent alot of time with this series (i worked on the T-N sub of it) and it really struck me as nothing like any Toku i had seen before.

The Human Characters where very alive and had their own endearing quirks (like how Asano whet all MoeMoe when she was in love and how everyone knew to stay away from her in that sate.....execpt Keita), even Charaters like Keita's Dad and the engineers who developed the Bravers got development when they would be left as 2d backround in any other series.

And then there is the bravers themselves, 7 the Stoic Partner and Hero of the story, 03 the Straightman and 01 the Lone Wolf and Friniemy. Dispite being AI's in a transforming phone body, they sometimes felt like they WHERE alive. 01's Helping the blind girl connect with the man who made her that way by accident was a pretty powerful thing for him to do, her gratitude almost seemed to break 01's hate towards people.

I thought alot of the stories where well written with few misses. The Out of Range Women two parter was a sheer Mindfuck from start to finish, i had to stop the video a few time to contemplate WTH was going on, but i loved it!
:buttrock:

Honestly I see no reason why someone wouldn't like this series were they to give it a fair chance :) The only thing that I hated about this seriers was that silly over the top space invasion episode lol ...

Oh come on! That episode was classic! :P

No I agree with everyone else, this show was amazing. The production, the characters and story -- their interaction, everything was top notch and we need more shows like this in the future. Less "BUY OUR NEW TOY" and more "Hey we can actually tell a story".

My favorite episode though was technically a "filler" -- episode 17. I admit it, I cried like a fuckin' baby.

I heard there was supposed to be a online only sequel to KS-7 called Keitai Sousakan 7: NEXT. But I don't think it got off the ground because it would've been fansubbed by now.

But the show was awesome. Nice character interaction, drama, comedy and acting. I even laughed at the part where that comedian guy did his Goku from Dragon Ball Z impression and only Keita managed to get the joke.

It wasn't much. Basically takes place in space and is set before and during the series itself. It's basically a means to sell new toys without human actors.
