Kamen Rider Wizard EP 24 -"The Wizard's Grandmother"

I don't know. They're both loud, they both rubberface constantly, they both prat-fall, often try to do something cool only to have it fail, like Beasts DiceSaber attack failing on him. Is it that different from Shunpei taking on a Phantom with a stick? It's really the same kind of durp moment.

IMO we have two characters vying for the role of alleged comic relief in the same show and neither is funny nor do either of them really contribute anything. Arguably, Beast does more than Shunpei just by being able to henshin but still..

I don't really think so. Shunpei may be a clumsy prat fall machine but he's no where near as loud as Kousuke. And Kousuke failing with the Sabre Strike is different than Shunpei and stick. That's Kousuke trying look cool while Shunpei was doing that out of pure desperation. And Shunpei has actually been pretty toned down for awhile now.

Shunpei's act can only go so far before they have to bring one of the other characters down to his level. With Kousuke there they can play off each other while Haruto and the others do all the series stuff. Besides White Wizard will be coming into play soon enough and he's more then serious enough for the both of them.

Shunpei is nothing like Beast. They are two different kinds of wacky.

I agree. Shunpei got his comedy from being clumsy, while Kousuke is just wacky and weird. And they've tune down Shunpei at least, unlike Fourze where they never seemed to have done anything to tune down their physical comedy.

I have never had a problem with physical comedy. I like both characters. I'm glad for Beast because he is not Kizaki (whom some people were expecting to become Beast; I loathe Kizaki) and because he's not the usual arrogant/aloof/asshole type of secondary Rider

While I can appreciate not wanting a jerk Rider or even going for another round of the Accel and Meteor thing I don't think having a total buffoon Rider is a good trade off.

I actually like Shunpei more than Kousuke. Yeah he was annoying in earlier episodes but he has since toned down quite a bit and is actually more helpful than Kousuke has been. I definitely would have preferred Shunpei as the secondary Rider.

I realise that comedy is a very subjective thing. You either find something funny or you don't; there is no middle ground. Which makes comedic episodes very difficult to pull off. Either you laugh at the jokes and enjoy it, or you don't and you hate it. There's nothing more unbearable than a show that's trying and failing to make your laugh. This episode, as with many other "character's family member comes to visit and finds out their secret identity" toku episodes, relies on putting the characters in awkward situations and hopes you'll laugh at that awkwardness. But I never do. I always just feel awkward on the character's behalf.

All of which is a very long way of saying "if you liked it, good for you, but it made my f***ing skin crawl."

Wizard 24:

- I can't see Rinko making anyone spill anything unless it was some kind of physical comedy gag or plain clumsiness >>

By the way, it seems America may be the only country where women who are regular police officers (and not higher ranking like detectives) aren't put into slacks and made to look like smaller men.

Juxtaposition that with Nitou's grandmother in a kimono in the same scene and the whole thing feels somewhat "classier" than what you might see in an American police drama. Maybe I'm misremembering by not having watched much lately, but it's often snooty rich women, poor working class immigrants, or gaudy clubgoers wearing dresses or skirts wearing skirts or dresses in those shows.

- Why does Nitou look like Charlie Sheen in his close-ups? And why am I supposed to empathize with him over his Chimera plight when even he doesn't seem to care? Even when he does it's treated as comedy or awkwardness, as this episode does.

I will admit though, Rinko pulling Nitou off a tree is a bit funny.

- How exactly are these Phantoms supposed to get people to despair? Sometimes they'll go into it and other times it's presumed that... just being scared of the Phantom will drive you into becoming one?

- You know, for a Rider named Beast he's not very bestial. The costume is too "clean" like the OOO costumes. Both Beast and OOO should have been more Gills-like. Make the black parts more fleshy and give armor a more "melted" look. The SIC figures are better than the actual show versions.

And when I see Beast doing some Poitrine impression, I'm left wishing he would live up to his name and ravage the enemy like Gills. :disappoin

- This whole issue between Nitou and his grandma could be handled so more subdued and not like some tween sitcom. Maybe have Grandma scold him a bit and Nitou responding coolly. Something appropriate to the situation.

- And after that talk with Shunpei she is still calling Nitou good-for-nothing? Good job with little speech, Shunpei -__-

- I like how Weretiger is just hiding behind the bus seats until time to say his line

- Why does the belt say 'Beast' instead of 'Dolphin'? What if Haruto used other Beast rings?

And it would have been cooler if they had planned to swap rings instead of somehow catching each others by accident.

- How do you demand someone to make you despair? That line just doesn't sound right.
