Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 15 - "After the Last Scene Is..."

Really liked this arc, it was my favorite so far. It felt "mature" for nowadays Rider and genuinely dramatic, what's with Haruto struggle to deal with this situation, then doing a questionable choice, even if feeling bad about it. He seems to be the kind of a flawed main character that we weren't getting recently.

I like where this series is going. Also funny how Junko Komura seems to be exploring characters' nuances better than Kida, the supposed main writer..

Yeah I noticed that too. Junko seems to write all the episodes dealing directly with Haruto's psyche.

I've been enjoying the trend of the Dragon styles where there will be a CG-fest for their debut followed (or in Wind Dragon's case preceded) by more practical uses. Haruto's semi-even match against Medusa along similar lines is one of my favorites so far. To me it has the same appeal as a costume/color swap for a fighting game character.

I loved the [Iris Out] ending and how the movie paralleled Chizuru and Stashi's story... except the whole him dying part. In HER mind, it parallels the movie.

Haruto's struggle was fantastic to see!

White Wizard was pleased by the Flame Dragon debut.
Wiseman was pleased (possibly) by the Water Dragon debut.

I report, you decide.

Also SLEEP had an awesome use this episode. That was so clever!

Haruto splitting the sea was SO EPIC!!!!

Well, lets see where the latest Wizard episode takes us...

--Even before the OP sequence, I find myself impressed by the choreography. Even against Medusa, Haruto has some nice, snazzy fighting moves!
--Now I see where they are going with the Blue Stone. Kind of obvious by now, but I sure do miss the old days, making regular rings with charming, gimmicky tricks... They had the same appeal as those cartoon-ish auxiliary Switches that Fourze had.
--And now Satocchi is tricking Chizuru... It won't take much to make her despair other than reveal his Phantom form to her, probably.
--Satocchi's an idiot for filming her instead of making her despair while he had the chance, and Chizuru is also an idiot. Never pin your hopes on your first movie! Most famous actors probably want to FORGET about their first film!
--Nice move, Haruto! Shielding her eyes. Very gentlemanly. ...How long can you keep it up?
--A Phantom going soft? Can't be...
--Nice words of wisdom, ring maker! Truth hurts, but delaying the truth doesn't help at all.
--So she has a thing for Satocchi. I had a feeling...
--Sleep? Really?! Come on! Let her despair! More females need Engagement rings!
--He went from dodging a car to fighting a car. Now that's bada$$!
--I was not that impressed by Water Dragon's finishers. Feels more like I am watching something from Super Sentai.
--Ending with a lie. Classy... Justify it however you want, still don't like it. Not sure if that's the lesson I'd want my children to take away from it, if I were a parent.
--Did Haruto or Satocchi finish editing the film? Either way, it still makes me wonder if there is a chance Phantoms could decide to be good instead of evil, if their memories of their past life will affect them now. They could have played that up here, but they didn't.
--Also, after watching this thanks to Over-Time's subs, they kept switching the name between Satocchi and Satoshi. Which one is correct? Anyone? Did they really keep pronouncing it differently each time?

Well, we've got Flame Dragon, Hurricane Dragon, and Water Dragon. Bring on Land Dragon!

"-chi" is basically a nickname-honorific. Like, if I wanted to make you a nickname, I might use "Ekicchi" (you double the "c" for language reasons that I don't remember off the top of my head). Or, like my IRL friend does, she takes part of my last name, and turns it into "Mochi".

In this case (I haven't watched either episode subbed yet, but basing off the live broadcast and other posts), his name is Satoshi, but his nickname is Sato-chi/Satochi, as a pun on his full name, since they sound similar.

Thank you! This is why I love learning more about Japanese culture, language, etc. Learn something new everyday.

Another awesome episode of Wizard!

- Water Dragon's debut was short but sweet. Overall, better than Hurricane Dragon's but still not as powerful as Flame Dragon's. Though in all honesty, in the time it took to turn into Water Dragon, Wizard could have finished off Lizardman with Water Style. I think it would've been better if they had Lizardman go into the sea and then Wizard goes Water Dragon, thereby giving Haruto an actual logical reason for using the form, but it's just a minor gripe. The form does give off some Putotyra vibes, especially when it's finisher involves a large CGI tail and a frozen enemy, the same as Putotyra's scanning charge.

- I really liked the melancholic feeling and the moral ambiguity present in the ending. It wasn't necessarily a happy ending, but at the same time it wasn't downright depressing, which I think is a good balance for Wizard and Neo-Heisei Riders in general. I feel that while idealism and optimism should win out in Rider, it shouldn't be so prevalent that it prevents Rider from telling mature stories especially in a world that is full of shades of grey.

- As a whole, I think Haruto did the right thing. Just telling Chizuru the truth would have done more harm than good, so long as she still has a Phantom inside her. What's important right now is that she's happy and on the path to becoming an actress and achieving what the guy she fell for knew she could. If there comes a day when the Gates won't have to worry about their inner Phantoms anymore, I think only then should Haruto tell her, and hopefully one day that will come to pass.

- Hey, Sleep! Props to Wizard for bringing back old rings that seemed to be just for one episode use . Hopefully this episode is a sign of things to come and Wizard will be better about using his non-combat rings than Fourze was.

- Wiseman certainly seems happy that Haruto used another Dragon Form... maybe his only reason for letting Phoneix run loose before was because he was the only Phantom who could get Haruto desperate enough to seek the power of Wizardragon and use the Dragon Forms? It certainly puts what the Phantoms have been doing since the show began in a much different light... one that does not bode well for Haruto.

- Can't wait next week for the mysterious gift deliverer, a man with high hopes, and Water Dragon Vs. Phoenix!
