CRETINS! ALL OF THEM!
-Spring 1595-
The full Moon was high in the sky and the stars twinkling away happily. Under the pale glow of the moon a lone Japanese fisherman was walking down the beach. Having lost his small boat in an unfortunate meeting with a rock he was trying to drown his sorrow in alcool. A urn of sake in one hand, a square shaped wooden cup in the other he was just dancing down the beach.
That’s when he saw it. A sparkling form flying down from the night sky. At first it looked like a star, then a shooting star, but then it started to get closer and bigger! It wasn’t a star or anything… in fact it looked like a flying horse with a figure on its back. The flying shape was galloping from the Ocean, from the East. The fisherman just stood there awe struck as the figure got closer and gigantic antlers became visible on the silvery steed’s head. It wasn’t like any deer the man had seen in his life, they looked large and wide, like wooden hands reaching for the stars above. With supernatural grace the animal landed on the sandy beach, snorting loudly as its rider disembarked. The Rider was apparently a man, a VERY tall man at least a head above the fisherman and hidden by a long cloak with fur on the shoulders and hood. The lone fisherman could only see of the man a pair of muscular arms letting go of the reins of the fantastical animal, which then vanished out of thin air! Without noticing, or caring about, the startled fisherman the man simply walked up the beach and dissapeared into the woods. The fisherman stood there for a moment before he simply chucked his sake into the ocean, promising to start rebuilding his boat the next day.
--meanwhile—
The flames were licking the skies, like they wanted to devour the Moon like they were devouring the village. Most of the small rice farmer village was being taken away by flames, but the villagers were far too busy to do anything. Huddled in the only building left intact, the town’s small temple, were the children and women of the village while the men, armed with simple tools were forming a line, backing the settlement’s lone swordsman as he was faced with a dozen soldiers in blood red armors. The soldiers were all brandishing pitch black blades that sent shiver down the spine of the young Sakuya as she watched her grandfather, her only family, swat away a soldier.
“Gramdpa…kami-sama please protect my grandfather…†She pleaded, grasping the small round charm hanging around her neck.
The soldier stood back as the only one of them with a helmet stepped forward “I’m only going to tell you this one more time, old man, give us the girl and her magical charm and you might be able to save something of this pityful village!†Declared the small group’s captain.
The man opposing him, a greying man with a beard, glared angrily “NEVER! I will protect everyone in this village and I won’t sacrifice my grand daughter for a few houses that can be rebuilt. Go away and tell your lord that I will never let her out of my sight!â€
“Do you really think you can stop us all feeble old man?!†Barked the captain angrily, making the peasants shake in fear.
Two soldiers charged forward, but their assaults were dodged skillfully before they both ended up with large gash across their chest. The old man flicked the blood off his katana and walked toward the squad captain.
“If I defeat you then maybe your men will withdraw.†He simply said.
The captain sneered and charged. The pure metal blade and the pitch black blade collided together.
“Grampa be careful!†Shouted the little girl from the temple.
She felt terrible about the situation. If she hadn’t been able to make that charm work…if the rain hadn’t come whenever she prayed hard enough, then maybe those evil men wouldn’t always be coming after her. Once she asked her grandfather why they didn’t leave the small town, but he had told her that he had vowed to protect it. The girl had argued it would be safer for everyone if her, and her charm, were not in this little village, but he had replied she needed to have a normal life, and that they were harder to find in this isolated village in the mountains and thus safer. Yet the Blood Soldiers had come. The Blood Soldiers, called so because of their armor, were being sent all over the Kai province by the order of Lord Ishikawa, the man Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu had put in charge of the province once he had left the area for Edo. No one knew why but the Lord was collecting any item said to be magical or legendary in any way or form, even the most unlikely, and the girl’s Rain Charm was certainly one of the most potent.
The captain and her grandfather exchanged a few blows but then the captain started to sneer sinisterly.
“You’re just a feeble old man with his feeble sword! You’ll never be able to stand up to us! Look at this pathetic blade!†He said, attracting attention to the fact that everywhere their blades had met had left a small crack on the older man’s weapon.
“No! My sword! I made it myself it can’t be!†Gasped the swordsman.
“No sword can stand up to our weapons! Nothing in this world can’t be cut by these! Lord Geka, Lord Ishikawa’s chief advisor, forged them and his science is unmatched! Watch in awe the best blade you’ve ever see become the LAST you’ll ever see!†Growled the captain.
And with a push his dark blade shattered the noble swordsman’s katana and sliced right through his left shoulder, much to everybody’s shock. The wound was gushing with blood and it was a surprise the arm was still attached afterward.
“GRAMPA!! NO!!!!†Called out Sakuya, in tears.
“You fiend! I won’t go alone!†Gasped the old man, driving his broken blade deep into the chest of the evil captain, before collapsing to his knee.
The captain took a few steps back, his face distorted in sheer schock. This was not to last however as a new expression took over…an expression of abject hatred. A dark aura started to surround his blade and extand to his arm just as his eyes turned pitch black.
“You…you shouldn’t…have done that you old coot…†Growled the captain, his voice changing to a rumbling growl.
The dark aura flared around him as he let out a howl unlike anything a human could ever produce! His entire body started to bubble over as if boiling from the inside. His hand started to melt away, fusing with the hilt of his pitch black katana just as the blade grew in size to the thickness of a butcher’s knife… suddenly his skin and clothes exploded outward, splattering chunks all over the area as a new form was reveal. Still covered with his own blood the captain had turned into a monstrous form, closer to a demonic ant than a human. His body was now covered in the black exo-skelleton of the insect and his head, still protected by the helmet he wore, now sported powerful mandibles. The demonic beast let out another howl. The farmers stood back in terror and the entire village was shocked when the beast used its blade to slice the fallen swordsman to pieces.
Sakuya was the only to cry out, all the others frozen in fear “GRAMPA!!!!!â€
The rain suddenly started to fall as if called by the girl’s horrified screams. The other Blood Soldiers seemed lifeless as their former commander, now a monster, charged the helpless farmers. It didn’t even bother with slashing them all with its blade, sending flying the hapless humans was enough as it had only one mission: get the girl and her Rain Charm. It ran toward the temple and the frightened villages ready to kill anyone in his way. Sakuya realised it and screamed out one more time. That’s when SHE appeared.
((OOC: Well I think that’s enough motivation for one of our Japanese heroine to make her entrance wouldn’t you say? First come first served for this. For now try not to step into someone else’s introduction. You know how the rules to these sorts of things go. No godmodding, no controlling other players’ characters (Sakuya’s a NPC so control her as you please and give her the look you want, I didn’t specify her look on purpose), don’t try too hard to have the coolest character around because then it never ends well. Also try to keep the story rolling and don’t be affraid to control the villains when they’re not around our heroes. Just don’t abuse the 66 Demons and have like 10s of them running around at the same time. Those guys are special. Also don’t abuse the enchanted steeds too much. I hope we make a GREAT story together!))
