Kamen Rider Ryuki - Talk Up!

When it comes to quality of writing, Ryuki is a step down from Kuuga and Agito. But it is still one of the best Rider shows out there. One thing Kobayashi is good at is giving each "hero" character an interesting background unique from those of his peers. People will say that there's hardly anything "KR" about it, yet one must look closer to see that the show is more or less OldGen Rider with cards and alternate dimensions. How you ask?

- Kanzaki's Game takes the place of the classic organization. He and the Advent Monsters kidnap and kill people for his own goals. The Riders themselves are locked in the rules of his Game: Kill or be killed. Escape is not an option.

- The hero is given a power he doesn't want, meant to be used as a tool of "evil". Shinji never wanted to be a Rider, yet he is dragged into Kanzaki's Game and told to kill others. But he refuses and, despite his occasional naivette, instead uses his newfound power to protect the innocent. Similar to the original show and Black.

- Personal loss. In particular, Ren, Tezuka and Mio fight out of vengeance for another. Similar to V3, X, Super-1, ZX, etc.

There are other examples, but these should be satisfactory. Ryuki is one show I definetely recommend to a new toku viewer. And speaking of Dragon Knight, I do look forward to what it will entail. (Particularly the dystopia of Ventara. Dystopia is the main thing I liked in Paradise Lost and GSL, and fits so well in the themes of Rider.)

its a great show maybe OZ or someone can properly sub it one day, since the u.s. version is so vastly different from the japanese one I don't really think the two affect each other anymore :D

end ending of the series is a bit of a mind F*** though its still good and cool & worth watching I'd also try and get all the movies & what not they did and watch them too... Its got to be one of the most fun rider series out there for all the fighting there is in it & it has a great story too! So many riders & badies & in group fighting its kickass!

I'm watching it right now ..and all I can say is that Lian and Jance ( ) are the most unpredictable riders 'till now  (so funny)

Btw, there's some lack of actors play... especially from Ren (Satoshi Matsudа), but I guess it's ok, if it's some of his first roles.

But, what's I really like is the idea of Mirror World ..it looks kinda creepy, when you think that there is monster in the glass ...that's why I do not take a mirror in my bag

Oh & the "game" fighting was so homage toe the tv/movie series high lander FYI though I'm sure you and everyyyyyyone here knows that unless you're a young pup and have not watched any of the series

& I loved the "mirror" aspect to it too how freaky :D as a kid I could never sleep i na room with a mirror in it or at least I did not like too and as a adult I still don't I just see all the movement and what not reflected back in it :S find that annoying :S

I'm just done with episode 32 now. Yes, Oja man is the shizznit. I gotta say that design of Oja is the best ever.

I was so disappointed that Raia died. He was my favorite character and loved the design of Kamen Rider Raia.

Looking forward to see more. I'm getting close to the finale soon. Then Kamen Rider Dragon Knight is next. Coming up in September.

They're repainted masks of the Kinclones from Spielban. (That would be Skugs for the VR Troopers fans).

I thought so! That's why they looked so familiar. Nice re-use.

Ryuki is an amazing show up until the last fifteen-twenty minutes. I don't mind the final outcome (it actually makes a good bit of sense) ... it's just the way it is brought about could've been done better.

Over time I've come to like the ending a little more. Mostly because I get the feelings that Shinji and Ren still remebered what happened. There was that short awkwardness about their "first" meeting that made me feel they remembered each other somewhere deep down inside.

But it still could have been better.
