Kamen Rider OOO - Talk Up!

Your problem with this being?

I don't have a problem with it. I think it's ludicrous that people in this thread expect someone with your appetite for light, spazzy adventure to get into a gritty-shaped character like Gotou.

Most people found Go-onger way too light and way too spazzy, but you clearly didn't. So you probably just like that sort of thing and people should respect that instead of trying to change your brain's wiring.

Gotou isn't a bundle of laughs but neither are Kougami, Maki, and the Greeed.

I laugh my ass off at Kougami and Maki. A lot of other people clearly find those two amusing, too. I think the show presents them tongue-in-cheek and clearly expects the audience to laugh at them and turn them into memes. Kobayashi's comedy chops are too good for their hilarious character tics to be accidental.

(I've said my piece about the Greed elsewhere, so I won't repeat it here. Suffice to say, I think they're not very serious villains.)

Let's just say that there are folks who are going to be biased in their views no matter what. That makes us human. I tend to not compare these shows because it ruins the show for me, and I just enjoy it as much as I can. In my opinion it's better to judge the series once it's done and over with.

Gotou is the living avatar of Eiji's 'serious business' flashback. He's just a jarring tonal shift. My guess is that if they pursue the Rider angle, he's follow the Nago path and randomly suffer a wacky personality change when they aren't dealing with his personal subplots.

Kougami and Maki pontificate a lot, but they're mostly weird four-color archetypes otherwise.

I like to analyze Rider as it goes along, since most shows (especially Naomi Takebe shows) tend to experience tone drift. I only do that 'cause it's fun for me, though.

To each their own. Sometimes we just have to let the show go on.... Let's just go back to basics. The intended audience are kids. It's like with Kabuto. We as adults have had issues with all the time loop holes. Kids don't. They imagine stuff and all of a sudden the heroes have this big friggin gun or sword that would defeat the enemy... We adults tend to over analyze it and say that it should not work because of physics or limitations that we know of... It's an imaginary world.. Anyway... enough of the ramblings on my part.

EDIT: Just to clarify: I'm not trying to quash anybody's opinion. I'm just stating my own.

No, Zolda was a smug jerk off. Kaixa was a smug jerk off. Leangle was a smug jerk off. Drake and Sasword were smug jerk offs. Kengo-IXA is a smug jerkoff. Diend is a smug jerk off.

Date has done absolutely nothing to be lumped in with those people. Hell he hasn't even done anything "smug" yet unless you want to count being somewhat absent-minded and flippant.

And why do people still hate Gotou?

I disagree. He was confident and did you see how much he changed in the end?

But he got all character development-ized and stuff. Hell, the show is honestly making the distinction that he is meant to be Birth because he is the only relatively normal, disagreeable main character. Maybe once, I could see the dislike for him, but not anymore.

Oh, you people are trying too hard.

I think Date became Birth because he was able to make compromises with Dr. Maki, unlike Gotou.

Judging from the merchandise sales, kids just found Kabuto uninteresting. :disappoin

I'm really curious about OOO's sales, but we probably won't have the figures for a long while. (Like, I still haven't seen a figure for Decade, yet....)

That's the reason. Goto won't take every order because he has his own interests. Date doesn't yet seem to have any opposing interests.

You're right. I think once Date finds his own reason to fight (not just being greedy), that would be when he would let go of the belt and pass it on to Gotou
