It's quite the opposite. I can relate her awful behaviors to awful things actual people have done, which makes Saeko seem much more dreadful to me.

Does it? Some of the real world's most noted villains are those whose motivations we'll never know (Jack the Ripper, the Zodiac Killer ...) Sometimes people commit atrocities just because they enjoy it, but half the time it seems no one will buy a character as a "credible" villain unless he gets a ton of exposition about his horrible childhood and angsty past. Especially in the case of non-human enemies, we can't expect them to have human-style motive
