I'm beginning to think that Shintaro's desire to protect the world would backfire on him especially if Birth is powered by Core Medals. If that happens he might start seeing Eiji as his competition.

So far Eiji hasn't fallen under their power, because he's been sucessful in saving poeple which is his desire.

if Birth is powered by Core Medals

Now that could be interesting. Something like the Zeronos cards, perhaps, except that he's powered by the Greeeds themselves.

I think it'd also work if it were Cell Medals, and he somehow became addicted to them. He has to keep fighting the Yummy and Greeed to get more Cell Medals, and the more he gets to power his suit (and body), the more he needs.

Cliche near final episode speculation:

The ultimate greeed is born from all the cell medals collected. In a turn of events all of Eiji's collected core medals are now in the possession of the ultimate greed.
