Not exactly, characters who has a righteous goal can go either way... Either they'll be too arrogant and ends up fighting Eiji, or he'll realize they both have the same goal which is to protect humans so they'll team up. Try looking at the bigger picture first, since you seem to be totally sure on what's going to happen already. The fact that Gotou wants to protect humanity is a good sign already.

This is what I don't get. Antagonistic? What? Did I miss something, or am I just not seeing the same guy when Gotou comes on screen as others are? He's not antagonistic towards Eiji, he's exhasperated and concerned about Eiji's abilitiy to protect the world. And if he's antagonistic towards anyone, it's Ankh and Kougami. For good, established reasons.

If anything he is, like I've said several times, a mentor persona who will fight alongside Eiji (whenever he's not fighting alone) as a squad leader and commander, dropping orders and hints here and there.

Eiji isn't stupid enough or lacks the respect to not see that having Gotou on his side imparting his experience is a very good thing, and Gotou isn't stupid or assholeish enough to just forget about Eiji's past actions and discard the kid.

Unless, of course, Kobayashi wills it. Which is what everything hinges on

But what would be the alternative? A "colder" Rider is common for a secondary Rider type because it's easy to make him stand out from the main Rider without switching the focus of the series just to him. You can't introduce an "inexperienced Rider" in a show where the main Rider only became a Rider in the first episode.

Besides, even "Riderman" started pretty antagonist, attacking V3 during battles and even slapping his hand away when he tried to hold it. Of course, that eventually changed and he was named "Kamen Rider #4" when he "died". But it seems here that you're complaining about their introductions, not their eventual development or lack of it.

You can though. It's been done before, most recently last year in W. If the rumour is true about the creepy puppet guy developing the new Rider system, and then Gotou becomes its user, he'd still be "inexperienced"

Shotaro and Phillip were Double for an entire year before the start of the show, and Terui was never played up as "inexperienced" in spite of that.
