Gotou does not strike me as that kind of person. If anything, he's the kind of person who, if he does become a Rider himself, will know that while Eiji obviously means well and has a good heart, he's not the best when it comes to such a serious conflict. He's a veteran of sorts to Eiji's inexperienced naivete, so Gotou would probably try to dissuade Eiji from fighting or at least give him instructions and tips during battle if they fight alongside one another.

Gotou isn't stupid enough to ignore what Eiji's already accomplished, and he isn't a random dick who will throw away someone who can help fighting the Greeed.

Expect a 'I'll be the one to take you down when you finally succumb to the Greeed.' speech.

Exactly why he should NOT be the secondary Rider - he isn't worthy of the role anyway, and this level of arrogance would be stunning. It's Eiji's show, not his.

I'm honestly thinking you're watching some other show.

I kind of get what coco is saying. Gotou was so arrogant some people thought he'd be a second rider when we first saw him in the trailers. At least other character like Nago worked hard to get IXA or had back story like Ryu. Gotou is just kind of all there arrogance but with out any story and he's going to just get a belt handed to him. That's kind of lame.

Ahh I see, so in that case he'd be more like a very strict tutor and will be like: "I don't like you, but I'll help you anyway." He might possibly even stand back and if Eiji is having a hard time fighting he would be like: *punch* "You're doing it wrong! Here, let me do it!"

I think he won't be clashing with Eiji if that is the case, Gotou would be clashing with Ankh and Kougami more so. That slightly lessens my dislike of Gotou.

Another theory is that Gotou might join that scientist with the puppet on his shoulder out of spite towards Kougami.

And we don't know Gotou's backstory at all. So...

Is there something I'm missing? I don't like the character, but he's literally done almost nothing in the show. How can you base a hate on a minute of characterization at most?
