That's one thing not enough people focus on.

The show really doesn't focus on it much, either. I mean, it may come up as the focus of a plot episode at some point, otherwise I just don't think this will ever be emphasized.

That's one thing not enough people focus on. Sure we know Ankh likely will turn good before all is said and done, and sure, he SEEMS to be softening....

Really cause I didn't know that.

Ankh and maybe even the other greeed aren't really evil, they just want medals so bad that they don't care about anything or anyone else what so ever.

Yeeeeeah that's like the definition of evil.

Remember that this is tokusatsu, where it's not unusual for a character to be evil because they are a literal personification of Evil, or worship Evil, or Evil offered them sweet powers and a bitchin' costume.

The Greed are evil by any real-world standard but OOO (the series) honestly seems to view even the worst of them, Kazari, as a genuinely pitiable and sad figure. I think it's because the show gave the Greed a backstory such that it's difficult, if not impossible, for most of them to really choose good over evil.

I have the suspicion that Ankh is going to end up being Special and able to willingly to choose good over evil, probably because of his relationship with Eiji or possibly because he's not really a Greed at all.

I don't get how they can be seen as pitiable and I don't get how they can't choose good or evil.

So in Buddhist cosmology, desire is to be avoided by humans because desire leads directly to suffering. The way the Greed were created as fundamentally incomplete beings means there is a terrible desire that is intrinsic to their being and is literally impossible to fulfill.

From this point of view, the Greed have suffered since the day they were born and will never cease to suffer, because they can not actually become complete beings. The tenth medals they all yearn for were destroyed. They can never be complete no matter what they do. This strikes me as an extremely pitiable state of existence.

I think the Greed can't really choose good over evil because they're basically Frankenstein's monster villains. Typically in these stories the ability to distinguish good and evil is intrinsic to humans and the monsters lack that, due to the evil means used to create them. The behavior of the non-Ankh Greeds thus far is pretty consistent with this idea.

(And I'm not convinced Ankh is really a Greed to begin with...)

Well I do see Ankh in the role of the reluctant hero, especially since he needs Eiji's help in collecting medals. Which forces him to support OOO in fighting both Greeeds & Yummies, which also involves protecting people.

The way I see it, the Greeed cannot be looked at in terms of good or evil. They were created from desire. They lost a part of themselves and their desire for completeness was so great it created actual minds. They are the living embodiments of wants. And as Eiji points out, wants are neither good or bad. But they Greeed don't seem to be able to see beyond their desire. I see them as twisted in terms of human morality, but I'm not sure they're inherently evil. Ankh pretty much explains that the Greeed see humans as being weak beings who allow themselves to be consumed by their wants i.e. so whatever abuse the humans are put under by the Greeed they pretty much deserve. So, we're seeing not evil so much but...well...greed in its purest forms. And greed isn't evil, it simply is.

Yasu stole all the medals from Ankh under Kazari's orders.

Ankh, who lost his medals, confronts Kazari, but there's no way out for him.
So then Ankh declares that he is surprised that Kazari can revive with only one Core, and betrays Eiji.
Betrayed Eiji gets wounded badly.

On the other hand, Date and Goto begin practicing together with Birth.


Eiji, Ankh, Date.
Their thoughts intersected, the final battle begins with the lion-jellyfish Yummy letting out a roar.

OOO and Birth fight it, but they can't seem to get a good hit on the Yummy born from both Mezool and Kazari's Cores.
OOO gets beat up.

They're in a desperate pinch! The 3 red medals together,
the flame god combo, adorned in the flames of the phoenix, is formed!!!!
