You realize we've seen enough of Eiji to get a full picture of everything right? What does Gotou have to work with? The naive idiot who works with the unsealed demon?

True, Eiji may be an idiot, but he's much more fun

You leave Zeronos and Accel off the list, but they both warmed up in maybe four episodes tops.

I actually don't remember Ibuki or Zeronos fighting their main Rider at all. That's two out of ten. G3, TheBee, and IXA were all from groups or organizations that directly opposed the main Rider for most of their show. Up to five out of ten. Diend barely bothered with Decade outside of grabbing that world's foozle. Six. Garren was smoking the crack for the first half of the show, and barely cared what Kenzaki did. Seven.

That leaves Knight, Kaixa, and Accel, who directly dislike the main Rider. As I said before, Accel warms up pretty quickly.

I can tolerate Knight, Kaixa I despise, and Accel I was okay with cause he took less time than IXA to stop being an asshole. I don't think there were any Rider Battles in Hibiki at all. Garren kinda doesn't count as he was misguided more than anything. I think of Diend as mischievous and selfish, and as for Gatack (and maybe Drake), he was a nice guy amongst a bunch of pricks.

I don't like Gotou, but there's a lot of hate because he was going to shoot the demon, and dislikes helping the guy working with the demon. And this is the demon that we know full well is not a good guy, and would actively let people die to get his shinies. Eiji's his saving grace, but Gotou doesn't know that. We do.

Yeah. Eiji I think may see some good in Ankh, while Gotou has IXA's pre-Rising Form black-and-white attitude. And I do not dislike Gotou based on the fact he had Ankh at gunpoint, but rather his personality. Seeing him swiping at the cake that he got smacked against his face showed me that his embitterment towards Eiji is increasing.


So the tradition of Asshole 2nd Riders isn't gonna change any time soon....*sighs*

Well if KR insists on always having an asshole 2nd Rider (except Chalice, I love Chalice) then I'll abandon OOOs and stick to Super Sentai...

When did KR always insist on having a jerk 2nd Rider?. I can name ones who weren't jerks.

All the Hibiki Riders were good, or else they'd be eliminated. Haha.

It seems people in this fandom have issues with memory. Agito, Ryuki, Blade, Hibiki, Den-O.... No jerks for 2nd Riders.

Why all this Gotou hate? Wasn't it Ankh who freed the other Greeeds???

No kidding. I guess people would only like him if he acted like a complete tool.

It just means that the character being portrayed is working. Kusaka's character from Faiz was great at doing that...

I think more people love to hate Kusaka rather than just hate him.

There's also a difference between someone who doesn't smile/hold hands with everyone, and someone who's violent, rude, arrogant and insulting - a character type Kobayashi loves. Is Shintaro all of these? Yes, yes he is.

When has Goto acted like that to anyone aside from Ankh? He's serious and judgmental, but I don't see how you jump from that to "violent, rude, arrogant and insulting".

I'm gonna quote myself as a response, not sure if you read it or not, but I'm quoting it since it works as a response to this too. Two of my posts do, actually

Personally I don't really see Gotou as an asshole. I mean, I understand where the people who think so are coming from, but I just can't see him in the same light unless I force myself to do so. Sure, he has beef with Eiji, but I think his reasons for complaining about Eiji have all been valid so far, instead of just being founded on Gotou himself being an asshole :eyebrow:

Gotou's a soldier, I think, not just profession-wise but mentality-wise. He feels that Eiji doesn't have the mindset needed to fight the Greeed as OOO, and he feels betrayed maybe since everyone else seems to support Eiji. And yet he's helped Eiji several times, and never really worked against him so far (well, he did hesitate in handing over the cake with the Tora medal, but I think that's due to him still being pissy about the argument with Kougami ).

I do think Gotou could go either way as the show progresses, but so far I don't see the asshole others are seeing *shrug*

I agree with those who say he(Gotou)'s not exactly likeable, because he's certaintly cold, professional and distant when he interacts with people. But he's not an asshole.

Ankh is evil, and Eiji is childish and somewhat unreliable. These are valid reasons for someone with a professional and deeply motivated mindset to dislike them, and we see and hear very clearly that Gotou questions Eiji's right and ability to use OOO's powers to save the world from the Greeed.

If Gotou turns out to be the 2nd Rider it might lead to some very interesting character development, since he'll finally have the ability to take matters into his own hands and pose an actual threat to the Greeed himself, rather than just be an errand boy bringing Eiji the presents from Kougami.

He threatened a Greeed that's using a human body. He knew he could potentially kill Izumi. Eiji would not lie in wait for a Greeed and then shoot at them - it's cowardly.

Forgive me if I'll ask this but... Why do you have to always mention Kobayashi? It has led me to conclude that even if Gotou turns out okay later in the series, you'll still label him a jerk because his character was written by Kobayashi... :disappoin

She has a tendency to write characters who are jerks, but the audience is encouraged to love them (and usually does, no matter what they've done - Yuuto bullying Deneb and Ryoutarou, Takeru smacking Mako in the face, Knight being an absolute prick to everyone he meets.) Inoue does it too but he at least makes it clear when the character is being a jerk, instead of going "You must love him because he is a hero"

After reading over 10 pages of Gotou hate... why suddenly put that out?
I mean Gotou haven't made anything that BIG besides following Eiji and delivering cakes... :readface2:

And remember, a 2nd rider will always be a 2nd rate and will never ever over shadow the title character.

Ren was like that because of the terms of the Rider War, knowing that it may come down to him & Shinji, despite being allies.
