Kamen Rider Kabuto - "Points of Authority"

It just depends on how easy it is for you to get raws. *shrugs* It doesn't really look bad with the subs you've used, it's just a little pet peeve of mine that was established by watching too many crappy AMVs. And whenever Windows started shipping with WMM people suddenly thought they /could/ make videos... *kills WMM*

Ehem, what programs do you use?

I think its great that more people are able to try to make videos, and they're able to post them so easily. It increases the chances of finding a few gems, doesn't it? I think there are some people out there with a natural talent that may/or may not have been exposed without the accessability that we have now.

I'm just using Premiere Pro 2.0. Gets the job done well enough. I don't really use any effects or transitions (except the fades). The titling works well enough. What do you use?

I used to use Premiere Pro myself...but then I realized that aside from certain fades, I wasn't really doing anything I couldn't do in WMM. So I just tossed Premiere Pro. Though if you want a really good program, I'd say Vegas 6.0 is great, confusing as hell, but it'll let you do a lot of pro stuff.

WMM is fine if people actually do put some effort behind their videos. The general impression I've gotten has been negative though. But I'm mean like that when it comes to anything really, I can't stand MySpace since too many pages look like 10 year olds made them and if anyone asks me a technical question like "how do you print?" I go insane. I would never have the patience to be a teacher.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro (and Photoshop, VirtualDud Mod, and dBpower AMP...) I really like using Premiere Pro, and while I've used WMM in school for class work, I personally couldn't stand it. Premiere was easier to pick up for some reason for me. The first video I made is horribly filled with transitions and it makes me want to shoot myself, but the last one I completed turned out pretty neat after I took advantage of cropping and filmstrip files.

http://toranoko.koketsu.net/vids/ < Er, only Stargate: Atlantis stuff. Hopefully I'll finish up a tokusatsu one soon.

edit: I take it back. I use WMM to convert finished files to WMV. People seem to like those better than AVIs and it's much nicer on my bandwidth if people have the option between a 40MB file and a 15MB one.

Well it all depends on how much effort a person puts into it. With Premiere Pro, I found that it made the entire process boring for me. Nothing was really challenging. Once you master WMM, it's a really great tool and I personally find it to work much more effectively than Premiere Pro.

Most videos I see made with WMM do suck, and that's probably because 99% of those using it are newbies to the entire field. But if you know it in and out, you can manipulate effects and transitions to fit to just about any situation. I want to eventually move over to using Vegas Pro for all my videos, it's the best program that you can find to work with videos. This video is a great example of what Vegas Pro can do when it's mixed with a few other programs. Though doing something like this would probably take a few months depending how good a person is.

How long do you two usually spend on your videos?

Daaamn, that's really awesome. I could maybe do... er, the first 15 seconds with Photoshop and Premiere Pro, I think... with the right sources. XD Of course, it'd take an insane amount of time.

How long it takes me to work on a video?? Er, it really depends. I was able to turn out one in a week while I was learning how to use Premiere Pro... But I also have about 15 unfinished videos sitting on my hard drive, and they're likely to remain that way. I normally stay up all night working on one and usually end up with 30 seconds max, then I don't touch it for a while. I have an Agito one that I started back in December, had about 20 seconds, and just now started working on it again.

I liked the video I saw! (the other links didn't seem to be working) I'd love to see a tokusatsu one from you. So what do you do for a living/school? Obviously something with electronic media or computers in general.

Yeah, it'd take a long time to do anything like that. XD Eventually, I wanna be able to do videos like that, it'd be a pretty neat way to make a fanmade opening to say the least.

For me, I usually make videos on the weekends, and then I can do 1-2 depending on how long I work. I had nothing to do on Sunday, so I basically spent the whole day working on my Gon/Daisuke video and I think it came out pretty good. The longest I've ever spent on a video is the one I'm doing right now, which is about one month. I just need footage of Sasword fighting and his henshin, then I can actually get to work on the rest of it. I usually don't like using any effects aside from certain fades unless it really fits the video, so the time I spend is usually looking for raw sources and music.

On average I'm spending about 2 hours each on my videos (just because my time is so limited, but yea, who's isn't...). I could hammer down and polish but I just want to tell a story and convey certain emotions, so as soon as I feel like I've accomplished that, I start compressing the video for upload. If I do one for Kamen Rider "The First" I might spend a little more time on it. (but maybe not)
Toranoko's video shows in polish that she took some time and care to make it. (have you seen it?)

That (Bleach?) video was nice. I couldn't actually tell what was "edited" and what was original content. Thats probably a good thing.

I've never heard of Vegas Pro before. Looks like a nice product. I guess it depends on what you're expecting to make when it comes down to the "right" editing software. I'm not really all that interested in doing those cool effect/compositing things so Premiere works well for me. It seems to me that if you're purely editing in a cuts and transitions way, its the user, not so much the software that limits the potential. When you're doing effect heavy, layered stuff, I guess thats when you need the software big guns. Just my opinion.

Vegas Pro is generally used by production companies from what I've heard, so it takes a good while to master. I tried my hand at it a while back, and it's really one of the most confusing programs you'll ever use.

For the Bleach/CCS video, this is the original. As you can see, the person did a great job of editing there.

Same for me, I don't really like using effects all that much. I feel that the video and the music should be enough to get the story across, a lot of people these days just like using effects as eye candy and people eat it up. If you're going for a pure music video, then using effects will help in that aspect, but toku and anime music videos usually tell a story and adding in too many effects will take away from that most of the time.

Toranoko's videos are a great example of what a person can do with the right effects. Even then I still feel like it's a bit much, but I guess that just comes down to personal tastes.
