Kamen Rider Hibiki scares me

Alternate Trigger

Do you have an appointment?
So i downloaded the first episode of Kamen Rider Hibiki (i think i spelled that right) and watched it with my friend and both he and i where morbidly desturbed, does this show get any better or should i just get used to having a musical segment at the begining of each episode.

That's the one and only time it happens. In short, Hibiki is a great series, my personal favorite and since I don't feel like typing out why again, I'll quote myself from an older thread. You can read that here.

i agree with you about hibiki.it's a great show and my Favorite Rider Series.

I'm going to give away (vague) aspects of the show later on, so don't read further if you're at all fearful of spoilers:

Its OK as a show. Its certainly different than the other Rider series. What gets me is that right when its supposed to get good, you know, big bad finally appears, the plot to destroy the world is revealed and the final major epic battle is supposed to occur, Hibiki just fizzles to a quiet death.

I mean, its that bad; no final boss,no big reveal, no final battle. My advice, don't bother, its a good ride once you get used to it, but its a good ride to a very big disappointment.

Reading toku blogs and forums reveals why it ended the way it did, but that doesn't make the (lack of an) ending any more bearable.

did it end that way because they ran out of money, the same thing with a lot of shows that had great potential but the stupid corporate people cut them down.

Not likely money, but rather a culmination of issues that the production was forced to endure. Hibiki suffered from a lot of "controversy" because of it's drastic difference from the other New Gen shows, and lack of typical Rider staples (Kicks, saying "Henshin," etc). Other things went wrong with Hibiki, including disappointing toy sales. From my understanding, there was also a lot of internal conflict at Toei concerning the show and how it should be handled. The final episode itself, was supposedly rewritten just before it was filmed. Even some of the actors have gone of record as believing the show became poorly handled later on.

I know for fact there are other people on the board that are more knowledgeable about this, but basically Hibiki was a great show that suffered due to the hands it was in. I think if it had been done by a company besides Toei it may have flourished better. Hibiki isn't really a show for children, and I think that is why so many people seem to not get what it is about. A lot of the themes and issues, at least early on in the story, are about the trials of growing up and discovering oneself. Hibiki isn't about "the final boss" or big flashy battles. It's something that requires a certain maturity to really appreciate. Unfortunately, the suits at Toei just wanted another money maker.

EDIT: And as Eldar says below, the infamous writer change took place too. It happens in the early thirties. I can't believe I forgot to mention *that* of all things ... I guess that's what happens when you been up all night to see the sun rise ...

They did worse, they fired the producer and writers half way through the series and had the replacements change whole chunks of the story.

If I recall correctly, Blade did the same thing. Some of the changes were a bit more obvious in Blade, but it did feel a little more natural at first than in Hibiki.
