Meteor's base form can't keep up with the horoscopes anymore. Remember that while they are MOTW now, they are still considered cream of the crop, the toughest of their kind. Look at how Meteor Storm and Cosmic states still have trouble with those guy, Meteor's base form would get destroyed. I don't like it either, but at least the reason for why it happened makes sense.
It was an unmanned spacecraft not a satellite. I suppose it was a pretty big achievement for the JAXA as it had a pretty successful mission (to go to an asteroid, capture samples, and bring it back).
When I was in Japan earlier this year, trailers for a movie based on this (scifi it looked to be) was playing all the time. Supposedly there are more movies about it to come.
