Am I actually just one of the few that didn't freak out about this?
Yea, it's getting cancelled, but we're still getting the last two eps online, so thats better then nothing.

I'm not surprised, I saw it coming.

Someone in the TVN thread for Dragon Knight had this to say, which is I think the truth of the matter. Kids don't like super heroes anymore. Not like we all did back in the 90s. Back in the 90s, you always saw kids in comic book stores. Kids wore their Power Rangers t-shirts with pride. Now, who do you see these days in comic book stores and wearing Power Rangers t-shirts? Not kids, that's for sure. You see people our age. The 20+ group. So the real reason KRDK failed: because they marketed to kids who don't care for that kind of show anymore. If they ever try this again, maybe they should write it for adults and put it on Sci-Fi or something.

Might have worked back when it was still Sci-fi, but now it's Syfy and...yeah.

I don't really agree with that at all. Kids have liked super heroes since the 30s. The ridiculous demand for Super Hero movies? You can't bring in big box office from the nerd community alone. People bring their kids to see it. Probably hoping they'll enjoy the character as much as they did when they were a kid. Dragon Knight did a poor job of being appealing to kids.

I'm fairly certain that the successes of the comic hero movies of late have nothing to do with the kids. I'd need a survey to prove the point, but I saw very few children in the theater when I'd gone to see Spider-Man, Ironman, Batman Begins and Dark Knight, and the Wolverine movie. I didn't see Superman Returns in theaters so I can't say anything about that, but all those movies were geared toward (and succeeded because of) adult fans.

Wolverine I saw the premier of, so I guess that's out. Ironman was seen about 4 or 5pm, Spider-Man and the Batman movies after 8pm.

Did you go to see these movies during the day?

In a rare instance I actually agree with Quark lol

For real though, There were TONS of kids in the theaters when I went. Hell whenI go to the superhero movies that's why I do our theater's Prive (Upper level with leather seats and full service bar and restaurant). It's 21+ only, because I know downstairs is all kids and pre-teens.

Kids still love superheroes. But it seemed like KRDK at times didn't know WHICH demographic it was going for. It was half kids and half for people like us, which makes it hard to market. It really wouldn't done better if they'd just picked one demographic (preferably adults) and just ran hardcore with that

Granted gearing toward adults would've been incredibly difficult to work with, as hero-based tv shows for adults avoid loud, colorful costumes like the plague. I mean, look at Smallville. Clark should be Superman at this point if it weren't an alternate universe, and should be wearing the red and blue suit. But no, he's wearing the "dark and moody trenchcoat and all black" with the S spray painted in white on the shirt. The closest thing to a costume superhero in the show is Green Arrow, and his costume is just tactical gear that's green themed and hides his identity. Heroes did the same thing as Clark in Smallville, though the Ando-cycle was a hilarious nod to the Japanese motifs for their superheroes. It seems that costumed superheroes are meant only for the big screen now.

Can petitions work? Possibly, but unless you REALLY have your Ishizu together it's not even a pipe dream. You'd need to establish a website, organize a letter writing campaign, pay for advertisements, be extremely savvy about getting the word out and gathering people to support your cause. All of this for two episodes? Don't waste your time. I mean, if we're that serious about sending a message, our efforts need to be focused convincing someone to pick up a new season. That's something i'd get behind. But it'll never happen.

That was what I was trying to say earlier, you know, hidden through all my belligerent snarkiness and all.

Like I've said, I think the issue is that Dragon Knight wanted so hard to be a superhero drama, but for the last decade, the emphasis in live-action kids' shows has been comedy. The Troop, another action-adventure show, is being marketed specifically because of its sitcom-style plots, not its paranormal aspect.

I mean, I know people bitched up and down about the comedy in Ninja Storm, but didn't it get higher ratings than LR-WF? That's probably because it was a comedy, while those seasons were dramas.

Movies are a little different, but for TV, when we're living in a time where ALL (not even most, ALL) of the live-action kids' shows are sitcoms, it'd probably be best to cater to that.
