No idea, but I don't think DSi patches effect DS games one way or the other. But I don't have a DSi, so don't take my word for it.

Hmm, after giving the scan a more thorough translation, it says you can "record" over 700 cards. This might imply some kind of compatability with a card reader, but it's a bit vague. It definitely says you can collect cards in story mode though, so even if you can scan in cards, it sounds like it's not necessary. We'll have to wait until more info comes through the pipeline to know for sure what's going on.

As I said, you can unlock cards in game, so a card reader shouldn't be necessary.
