Anime is in clover these days with the latest big-screen offerings from Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man topping the list, but the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen movie wants to leapfrog them both by doing something they didn’t: debut as IMAX films. What’s been dubbed Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution will premiere two days before its scheduled December 5 release, for one night only, on the BIG big screen, GKIDS announced today. It’ll be interesting to see how Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution performs, especially with this kind of release, because…it’s a compilation film. In this case that means it’s half-rerun. Other compilation films are entire previously released seasons sewn into movies, but this one will be a weaving of the last few episodes of the Shibuya Incident arc and the first two episodes of the Culling Game arc. Those two have never been seen before, but we’ll soon find out if Jujutsu Kaisen fans will pay for something that’s not entirely original. Jujutsu Kaisen is about Yuji Itadori, a high school student who excels in athletic activities and is otherwise normal….at first. But one day he finds himself catapulted into the world of the supernatural when he has to save his friend from a deadly […]

I really think all these IMAX screenings for anime films must have been influenced by the success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. That movie looked incredible on the big screen, and the visuals were so stunning that it made sense to release it in IMAX. The huge success it had probably got other studios thinking, "Why not try the same thing?" Anime in theaters is nothing new, but the popularity of Demon Slayer in IMAX definitely showed just how well it can work. Seeing that level of animation on a massive screen really enhances the experience, and now Jujutsu Kaisen and others are jumping on the bandwagon. I wouldn’t be surprised if future anime movies start doing this as a standard. The fans are clearly ready for it.

I think I would’ve preferred a full movie instead of a compilation. IMAX is a great way to show off Jujutsu Kaisen’s animation, but I don’t know how many fans are going to be excited to pay for content they’ve already watched. I’m hoping the new episodes are really engaging and that the IMAX format makes them feel more immersive. If it works, this could set a new bar for anime films in theaters, but it really depends on how they balance the old and new content.

Dudes, I’m not going to watch Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution in theaters. It’s already on my Netflix account, and I can watch it for free as part of my subscription. I’m not really interested in paying for a compilation of episodes I’ve already seen or just a few new ones. Plus, let’s be real—going to the theater comes with its risks. COVID is still a concern, and who knows what could happen in a crowded space. I’d rather stay at home, be safe, and watch it on my own terms. No need to risk my health or safety for something that’s essentially a rerun with a couple of extra episodes.

And, to be honest, staying at home gives me more time to relax and play games for example at https://pokiesnetcasino-au.com/ - one of the best PayID platforms in Australia. The good ones process deposits almost instantly, which makes it super convenient when I just want a quick session without hassle. The bonuses are usually solid too, especially for PayID users. It’s just a comfy alternative when I’m in the mood for entertainment that doesn’t require leaving the couch.
I understand your point of view! There are indeed many reasons to choose to watch at home: convenience, safety, and the ability to watch on your own terms.
