Jikuu Senshi Spielban

Spielban's my favorite metal hero series. It's like all of the metal hero shows prior to it rolled in one, with ideas taken further and characters with more depth. I think it was a send-off to that Uchuu Keiji style, right down to casting the popular Hiroshi Watari (who had previously played Den/Sharivan) and Naomi Morinaga (who was popular as Shaider's Annie). But the better heroine of the show, IMO, was Makoto Sumikawa's Diana. And what I love is that all three leads are members of the Japan Action Club.

I always had a crush on Diana & Annie. Amazing women in the Toku world.

The ONLY thing I think they could have done a little bit better with was a different design for Lady Helen's suit. Having a duplicate of Diana's was just meh for me.

Helen was awesome.. Yup she's Annie of Shaider also..

I really love this toku very much as much as i love the Space Sheriff series..I think Ichiro"Aniki" Mizuki was here also.. He's Speilban and Helen's dad(though his voice as Dr Bio was different)..

Makoto Sumikawa was also in Kamen Rider Black RX..Though i prefer her role as Diana/Diana Lady in Speilban...

She also appears in an episode of Winspector as the head of some weird Amazoness group. I don't remember the exact one. I think it was in the 40s.

This show is pretty sweet. kind of reminds me of Kamen Rider Black. I wish it was recognized more in Japan. It's quite awesome!

lol, then we could've had a fourth VR Trooper instead of Kaitlin's double team mode.:)

I suspect it was a last-minute decision. Incidentally, the second half of Spielban (after Helen's defection) is mostly filler. The first half has most of the plot.

Didn't Spielban gain more popularity abroad than it did in Japan? It seems to be the same issue with Juspion. They were just "Those two other shows that came after Shaider" :disappoin

Yeah. Pretty much. Though Shaider was also not very popular in Japan either. Instead, more popular in the Philippines. It's mostly just Gavan and Sharivan that have all the attention.
