i say if they are going to make this fight happen, make it a charity exhibition or something. im sure dana white is never ever going to promote this after giving kimbo slice a shot in the ufc. i say joe rogan vs wesley snipes has a bigger chance of happening at this rate.
but the way jason frank talks about austin st john, its as if hes a modern day frank dux or somehing who claims to have fought in underground tournaments and killed guys. whats next? austin st john can do the trick with brick? im glad that jason frank takes the martial arts very seriously. but $25,000 for a fight is pretty descent. some undercard UFC and HBO boxing fighters make at least $5,000 and former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin made $100 in his first fight. my brother was a club fighter and the most he ever made was $1000. my father did some muay thai fights in thailand in the 1970s and was paid $300 per fight. for an event like jason frank vs austin st john, $25,000 and hopefully plus gate and ppv could get them a lot of money. i just hope the promoter wasn't don king. imagine if he promoted that fight.....only in america....
but the power rangers is also why i got into martial arts. when jason frank became a fighter sponsor with jesus didnt tap, a lot of the fighters told him they got into martial arts becacuse of him which i think is really cool.
on the subject of van damme, some fight fans think a fight between van damme and jason frank would make the sport look bad. boxing isnt as big as it was back in the golden era of muhamad ali, george foreman, ken norton, and joe frazier and is now plagued by evil promoters and the big fights exclusive to ppv. mma is already progressively expanding and is struggling to get sanctioned in new york and kickboxing never went mainstream in america. a fight between two hollywood stars regardless of their previous martial arts backgrounds would make it look more like a novelty fad as opposed to an athletic compeitition. but would people still see it? sure they would, but it needs to be for the right reasons.
im a big fight fan and a martial artist myself for 20 years. i hear conflicting stories on austin all the time. it seems to be mostly jdf talking all the smack, but some of my friends that got to meet austin st john all told me he's really cool as well as jason frank who i have met at mma events. but who knows, huh? is jason frank wanting the fight under mma rules? kickboxing rules? or point karate? or grappling? i believe for the van damme fight, he did want it under kickboxing rules.
hell, id live to see it a point karate fight with ryoto machida as the referee. the only other power ranger i heard of that has any grappling backgruond is steve cardenas and i heard he has a brazilian jiujitsu school now and has mad skills.
