Dead or Alive based on the video game? What was it about and Tetsuo? Also I'm glad to see someone has taste in movies and like BR I.

No, Dead or Alive the Takashi Miike black comedy/gore/drama Yakuza films. They're pretty sick, but really well made and entertaining as all get-out. Tetsuo (1, The Iron Man) is about a guy with a metal fetish that implants a steel bar into his leg and strange, metallic things begin to occur... probably the weirdest, most nonsensical, disturbing film I've ever seen (even moreso than Eraserhead), but I recommend it nonetheless. Keep in mind, Tetsuo 2: Body Hammer is waaaaaay different.

Loved Suicide Circle... great flick.

Insightful message at the end that took some thinking too. Only strike against it, I felt was its positive message at the end.

True horror punches you in your junk, screams in your face and gives no apologies, but relishes in your torment like the American Ring did to me.... and this other one called Ghost Story... 'bout a haunted film set.

I know Suicide Circle's message was trying to say "don't go with the crowd, march to your own beat," but...WTF was the deal with the theater full of kids? Did they run out of budget? I know some places have theories that the kids were those who committed suicide reincarnated or something, but...man, I think that movie was a mess. But that's what happens when you let a porno director try to write and direct a movie with a "message." The best part of the movie? ROLLY's inexplicable song.

But the earlier portions of the movie were cool, with an almost cheap and dirty Texas Chainsawy style of filming.

None of the mainstream/wide released Japanese horror flicks are very good, IMO. They have style, but little else (not even scares) and the more psychological ones are always a mess.

I'm just really against all these Ring and Grudge type movies, with "mysterious ghostly presences" and things like that. It's a little too predictable. While it doesn't really count as a horror film (does Battle Royale...?), I really loved Takashi Miike's Izo. What a splendid film!

Battle Royale just come on earlier this afternoon. wtf, man. they said there won't releasing this. then premonition comes on Thursday like last week and then Audition is showing again.


Summer 2006 they begin catsing for Chakushin-Ari, the american version. I've submitted my name to the director/cast supervisor just in case noone has shown interest in it yet.

If you recall this was like FD and FD 2 only it involves cell phones instead of Death's design and order of kills. Chakushin 2 was rumored to be a mess so i doubt itll make it over here 2008. but One Missed Call is underway.

Final message I got was that those in the Japanese culture.. in all cultures do not truely know the value of their own lives and that makes them not as good a people as they may think they are.

There are people who drink, damage their bodies and just have no regard for themselves, but when it comes to others and their loved ones they'd do anything for them and wouldn't even think for a nano-second of killing their sons, daughters or wives.

But they would still arm themselves. They aren't important to themselves and that is just as horrible a crime as shoving alcohol down the throat of a loved one or if they'd shoot themselves, that's just as bad as shooting a loved one.

You need to be important to you, just as anyone else would be important to you or that makes you no better than a person who would hurt or shoot another.

I read somewhere it was saying this was a message to Japan as a society to stop living for things outside of themselves. To cherish and love their own identities, even as a nation, instead of putting on a show for others.

You need to be important to you. Because without you, there is no love for others so you are that most imporant part. So if you don't love yourself and would hurt yourself... the primary person you should care for... what does your love for others really mean?

That's the message I got from it.

Showtime is showing Audition? Are they trying to make amends to Miike?

For those who don't know: Showtime created a horror anthology series called Masters of Horror, which basically had 13 directors each creating a short film. Now, Miike directed a film called Imprint, which was deemed too extreme for pay tv, because of how it dealt with abortion and torture. Miike himself wasnt at all surprised. The show ended up having 12 eps.

As for Asian horror, I am a really big Miike fan. Audition, Dead or Alive trilogy, Battle Royale 1 and 2, and as Bolt knows, there is an awesome little Japanese Zombie flick called JUNK that is teh pwnage.
