I'll miss Japan Hero. It helped me get into toku.

For maybe just a message board yeah. But japan hero was more than just a forum and a blog. Japan Hero had images galore of series I doubt even you have heard of before. Series that spanned passed just tokusatsu but went into
the roughness underrated anime as well. No im not talking like Bleach anime. I'm talking like Anime that got little attention or is older than you. Sure this place has its knickknack and since im one of the contributors I take it seriously and even though I wanted to be a contributor of Japan Hero it was treated very well and will always remain one of the greatest places where Tokusatsu and Anime got discussed. People discussed EVERYTHING there too. Not just the 2 main series.

Not this again. :redface2: I swear if you want something discussed start a thread about it. I mean I can sympathize. But since fansub groups only really focus on Sentai and KR, and nearly all of this fandom won't watch anything unsubbed, certain things just won't get talked about unless you are proactive about it.

So essentially, the online community? I still think HJU is the tops for that. It's done more than just provide people with images, I'll go as far as saying that before HJU, finding full series, of anything, was damn near impossible in decent quality. I remember the very first Kamen Rider episode I saw from the original series was a super small dimension one, but now you can find the entire series here. This goes for a lot of older series as well, sure it's because of the members themselves, but they chose to toss that stuff here.
I frankly couldn't care less about the anime fandom (and seriously, Bleach? Only some random 10 year old would think it's a hot **** underrated anime) because communities for anime are dime-a-dozen, but those for tokusatsu, especially at this size, in English, are very very very rare. Heck, before HJU, I don't think you really had too many interviews at all going on with people who actually worked on the Japanese productions.
BS. The only discussion threads that ever got to decent sizes were Sentai and mostly Kamen Rider. Other threads were lucky to get beyond a first page, and luckier still if people who didn't write off anything in the Heisei era actually participated.

Even with a few problems, I prefer the discussions here. JH had great stuff, no offense to JH forum posters, but the forums seemed to have a ton of people that just acted like they were above everyone else in the fandom. Some of those guys spent near half a thread trashing HJU posters. Even the people I don't get along with here have good things to say and don't think they are above anyone else.
Why not go start threads about something other than KR and sentai?

Well, here I am. Samurai Echidna, a member of the Japan Hero Access forum.
I don't want to seem like some whiny little child because my favorite tokusatsu forum is gone, but I will miss it. And I don't want to seem like I am anti-HJU because I never was, but I know others were and it will take me a while to get use to being here instead because I'm new here and everything is kind of overwhelming me (in fact, this is my first post here).
Truth is, it is sad to see Japan Hero gone. I know there are alternate places fans can get together to talk about tokusatsu and other related things, but it's still sad to see your favorite place to go suddenly gone. I'm not just some kid either. I've been around the internet for a long time, and I've seen tons of places come and go. Websites that started off as major fan communities with limitless resources to please the fans, only to die out and then disappear as the popularity decreases or as other, better websites come into view. I personally don't like joining too many message boards. Too much to keep up with. I prefer to find one place I am comfortable with that meets all my needs, and Japan Hero was that place.
It all started when I tried to join the forum at TV-Nihon back in the early years, when they were still in the middle of subbing DekaRanger. Without even realizing it, I accidentally broke a rule and was immediately banned without ever getting a chance to plead my case. Even now, I still can't rejoin that forum. But my interest in toku was new and young, and I needed a place to help me explore that interest, and somehow I found Japan Hero. The website was incredible! There was multimedia to enjoy, there were lists of tokusatsu and other shows from the old school to the current, there were pictures and reviews to help me decide which shows I should explore next. And the forum was just as much a thrill! We got to talk about the latest news, speculations, and other things too. From the shows to the toys, it was all I needed. I even made a few friends there. I'll admit that the forum wasn't always a hustle and bustle of activity, but in a way, I liked that. It felt more personal, like there was more room to be mature, and never too much to keep up with at one time.
When Jeff left, I believe it had something to do with family matters or something, I think everybody knew that Japan Hero and the forum were living on borrowed time. There was talks about when the site would go down, but not a lot. I kind of feel like Japan Hero never merged with anyone because they didn't want to lose their identity or the atmosphere they had created for the fans. But then, one faithful day, Japan Hero finally fell. I floated around a bit, but I finally decided to come here. I need to go to some place to get my fix on tokusatsu news and information. I've tried to get in touch with some of the Japan Hero friends I made on messenger (AIM and MSN), but they never seem to log on anymore.
So what am I trying to say? Well, I am sad to see Japan Hero go, but I'm not trying to make too much of a pity party out of it. If you've lived the experience of seeing one of your favorite online communities disappearing, a place you loved and visited very often, then you know where I'm coming from. But, after taking a moment to grieve, I'm here now. So try and be patient with me and I'll try to have fun here from now on.
