Is Shinnosuke a "bad character" or a character with no development

I like him. He is a believable character. His character design is not too outlandish, but we can instantly recognize him as the main character. The actor being the tallest among his colleagues help.
He's also written as that sleeping genius, requires interesting stimuli to truly goes "into gear".
To think of it, all of the actors in the series are the perfect match for the characters in appearance and demeanor. All of them.

That makes absolutely no sense. He's already there in our face with the flashy armor: How in heaven's name can you consider him a background character?

Let put it in some extreme example. Let everyone in Kuroko as ShinkenRed, call them main character but didn't change anything about story except when they fight Takeru just sit while one of Kuroko fight as Sentai. Kuroko in flashy armor and leader of team. I would still consider him as background character even though he defeat entire Gedoshuu. Kuroko can have dozen of quirk but in the end we just describe him as normal good guy. And what I watch is still Takeru and his retainer.

Yes, that is Shinnosuke. He is our normal good guy who just dragged into fight without any reason or story to make him interesting. Maybe later his writer will remember to tell us, but for now he is still treated as nice "Kuroko" who will always be there and come to aid other "main character".

Right had a principle when he started, and no matter what challenges he faced (and a lot of them seemed pretty unsurmountable), his principles didn't waver, until he triumphed at the end. He did get opposition from his team (well, Hikari and Conductor usually were opposition enough, and there was that time he was feel left alone) That's why I like him so much. There's nothing wrong with being hyperactive.

Did some alteration, and still hold the truth. Right and Gentaro is basically almost same, but have different reaction from their team. I just like Toqger better because it make Right decision more meaningful and the team feel connected.

I never really against "red centered" or "hyperactive", it is just double-edge tropes which based in reaction if their team and plot can make it more fun or instead worse.
I did say I like hyperactive Right, and also fyi I like red-centered Shinkenger.

That still makes absolutely no sense. A Kuroko being Shinkenred is not in anyway the same to a detective in flashy armor who kills Roidmudes and who solves all the cases. The other characters support Shinnosuke on his cases, not the other way around.

Again, Right and Gentarou are not in any way the same. Not even close. Gentaro is defined by his principle to befriend literally everything and everyone. There's none of that in Right.

It is an extreme example, it is far to be same but I expected you will say it anyway. Okay, what if Kuroko being ShinkenRed? An aide in flashy armor who kills Gedoshuu and who take care of Shiba house needs. Kuroko will do their job just like Shinnosuke, and kill monster just like Shinnosuke. But is their job something would be major center of plot?
Even though Kuroko's job keep them in contact with Gedoshuu, but Shinkenger story is not about an aide doing his/her job. Just like how Shinnosuke's job is something that keep him in many contact with Roidmude, but that is not something that would twist their story.

Again, Right and Gentarou are not in any way the same. Not even close. Gentaro is defined by his principle to befriend literally everything and everyone. There's none of that in Right.

There is, Right principle is optimistic toward the future.

Solving the Roidmudes cases is the major center of the plot. And Shinnosuke is on it every step of the way, leading the charge. If your hypothetical Kuroko fought every Gedoushuu, up to and including Dokoku, solving the problem of their threat to humanity, just like Shinnosuke is doing, then yes, he would be the central character. And he would be extremely recognizable. That would make your hypothetical Takeru "useless", though.

See, this hypothetical Kuroko stuff is nonsense. If you're going to do analogies, make it a correct one.
Shinnosuke may lack background, but he's definitely not static nor lacking in depth. He experiences conflicts and is continually changing as the series goes on.

Right being optimistic toward the future is not unique. That's practically every Sentai Red AND practically every Kamen Rider in existence. Because you know, a hero that's pessimistic is such an utter downer.

Yes, solving the Roidmude cases take up most time every episode but it is not story of Drive. Except killing monster is all you need to call someone main character. Asumu and Hibiki say hi.
For me, even if Kuroko is the one who fight, Takeru is still one of main character. He is their master, the one who give order to kill Gedoshuu, his decision make story plot. Even though all he do when his retainer fight is just sit around. That is what a warlord usually do anyway.

Of course it is nonsense. It will be such joke series if it is really happen.
Shinnosuke is not that terrible, he still have many possibilities await for him. But until now, he just forcedly blended to story, become anything they need him to do. "This type need passion, okay, I'm fired up". "This type need to be cool person, I'm so angry but relax I'm calm". "Wow a biker, by the way, I am car enthusiast". " You are a good boy but reckless, it's alright I will watch your back". And many thing happened, so I can just see him only as a handy good guy, good but not material of main character for me.
I wait him for his own story, where his own decision is the plot, not just goody-two-shoes who support everyone wish.

Unique is not necessarily thing for principle. We have a pesimistic, a coward, a lazy ass, an arogant before but they strife to become better person. And friendly is not that unique anyway. Amazon say hi.

That is just incorrect. Solving the Roidmude cases leads him to understanding what Roidmudes are and how to deal with them. That is the story of Drive.

No, Takeru in that case would be the boss. Similar to SCU's chief. But really, let's stop this hypothetical kuroko talk because it's hard to discuss something that doesn't exist.

Of course it is nonsense. It will be such joke series if it is really happen.

Then why the hell did you make such a contrived, pointless example?

Except, Shinnosuke IS calling all the shots. Yes, he respects Kiriko enough to help her make her mind, but it was still his rules they went by. Mach wanted to kill Chase from the start, but it didn't happen because Shinnosuke didn't allow it to. At this point I think you're just wanting to diss the character without actually understanding what's going on.

Drive is HIS show, plain and simple. He makes the rules, it's his reactions to the things that happen around him that move the plot forward, he changes, he gets conflicted. Objectively, those are all the things that make a protagonist, a main character.

Unique is not necessarily thing for principle. We have a pesimistic, a coward, a lazy ass, an arogant before but they strife to become better person.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about here.

And friendly is not that unique anyway. Amazon say hi.

I haven't seen Amazon, but I can't imagine he would come close to Gentaro in terms of making friends with literally everyone (including the final boss, and a spaceship).

I personally blame it on Episodes 12-19..... And Mach.

Anyways, I actually like Shinnouske.... It's just that there were 8 uninteresting episodes that did nothing but being filler... And trying to convince the audience that Gou's cool, but all it did was make me hate him more. I'm glad he got his driver destroyed (even though I know he'll be back) <_< Stupid c***... Favorite moment in 23. I maintain that episodes 1-11 were entertaining while still being flawed. I actually liked the cast in 1-11 and got really mad at what happened in 12-19.

How much people rant about other character being better as main character, Shinnosuke will always be main character, because just like you said this is his show. He is made to be main character and will have most screentime than other character.
The problem is, compared to other character, he is less interesting. That is the reason this thread can be exist anyway.

There is no character will exactly be same each other. You should not talking about Right principle either.

I wouldn't say Shinnosuke is badly written but, I would say he's not really relevant to the story so far. He's kind of a background character because the story is mostly about Chase and to some extent Mach. The problem being that he has no personal stakes in it. Yeah he's a cop and they make that a point multiple times but it's just not enough. It goes back to them trying to push the Drive/Chase rivalry. Shinnosuke just didn't have any connection to him that it was hard to care.

They're also not really consistent with his lazy attitude. It hasn't really been relevant since the beginning. So it's mostly a case of him just not being that interesting. Yeah he's a normal guy and there is nothing wrong with that, but I feel we've had main Riders just as normal who are a lot more interesting.
