Is marriage ruining Comic Characters...?

I agree with you. I guess I'm more pissed off both a "pro" and "anti" fan make such a big commotion out of the "mainstream" titles being the end-all/be-all as opposed to just the "reality that's shoved down our throats regardless of creative or logical cohesion". My stance isnt "the mainstream title should be amended", my stance is "dude, how can you be reading this crap? It's no longer representing the character well, read a universe that IS"

These days, continuity means jack ****. D.C pride themselves on that very notion, Marvel are slowly following suite...things like Wanda's reality warps are clearly designed to "undo" the sandbox the current writers have set up for themselves at some point...but it's detremental to the readers when you know you can't "invest" in something that's an illusion within an illusion. Hence why alternate realitys are becoming a much better alternative.

The only problem is that the company fears AUs will become more popular than the standard universe...so they get as much of the shaft as possible. The last big push with an AU was 2099, that outlasted the attention span put on making the Ultimate Universe line MEAN something.

I usually argue about how out-of-character the recent break-ups were and why they don't accuratly represent the characters, where as earlier bust-ups had logic alluded to them (MJ figuring out Peter's identity, the triangle with Felicia etc, and in Ultimate MJ and Peter's case, MJ's jealously over Gwen, and Peter being concerned for MJ)...but other instances havent been true at all to them. When the characters stop being characters, the title stops being the title.

All in all, the argument isnt "ASM needs something like this right now", the argument is "When ASM can't be ASM anymore, why is it still around? Spidey's as irrelevant as Steve Rogers pre-Brubaker is...take the horse behind the barn"

Spidey's much better off as a complete story told in different mediums (television, comics, movies), than one cliche-driven "static" title where nothing changes.
