Is Goseiger's really that bad?

That´s a fair point.

For my money, Goseiger has one of the best Super Sentai Openings, if not the best. And the ED is pretty damn good too.

but it's sandwiched between Shinkenger and Gokaiger, so it gets more hate.

That's a very bold assumption to make. I think had more to do with the "sunshine and lolipops" atmosphere of the show rather than it being inbetween two series that are grossly overrated by the fans (and this is coming from someone who enjoyed Goseiger and the few episodes I saw of Shinkenger)

Oh no, the really good stuff is still to come. Wait till you get to the end of the WarStar arc.

Finished watching episode 7 and the ending just killed the whole episode for me. Like why couldn't they just kept the story to that the old man's wife died, like did they really have to make him out to be a true pervy guy?

But Shinkenger and Gokaiger now get a lot more criticism in the fandom and people complain that they are "overrated" (especially Gokaiger) and yet Goseiger continues to be maligned.

I think Goseiger coming between the two is an issue and happens to other shows - Go-onger coming between Gekiranger and Shinkenger is another prime example. But I also agree that it's the mood and tone of Goseiger that sealed its fate among English-speaking fans. Just because a show is popular doesn't mean everyone will automatically hate its successor; e.g. OOO is generally a well regarded show and doesn't seem to have suffered too much for following W. In Goseiger's case it's not just the "sunshine and lollipops" factor but the complaints people have of "playing it safe" which seems to be levelled at pretty much any show these days that isn't what they wanted.

Shinkenger isn't that great, either. It didn't have much of interest for me. It's one the weakest 00s Sentai, like Hurricanger, Go-Onger or Kyoryuger. Just compare Shinkenger to every season from Abarenger to Gekiranger and see the diffirence.

And you know what happened when Toei took a risk and stepped outside their comfort zone? Go-Busters. So yeah. To those who say Toei keeps playing it safe, now you know why...
