Garo isn't the best out there (sorry JC), but it definitely is a very good show. Quite entertaining, nice take on traditional concepts, beautiful design and artistry (particularly Full Makai Knight Ensemble), and contains a good storyline that's executed relatively well. It managed to flesh out character development considerably while balancing it with the tokusatsu / action elements of the genre. On a whole, I enjoyed this very much and pretty much marathoned the series when I finally got around to it.
Other reasons to watch Garo:
The deluge of toku cameos - if you are a tokusatsu extraordinaire, you'll appreciate when you see them and how they, (if you can catch it), reprise their original toku roles in some manner.
The music: both OP and BGM (I hated the EDs IMHO) - can't really go wrong with JAM Project.
Note: Watch out for Ep 5. Ugh.
As for other toku recommendations: people have already done a good job of saying them. I'd just add Kamen Rider Kuuga to the mentioned by Ryoutarou in particular.
