Ip Man!

A simple passerby...
I saw Ip Man 1 and 2, and also Ip Man: The Legend is Born with my dad the other day. Well, he'd seen 1 and 2 before me, but we saw The Legend is Born together. Being a Martial Artist myself, I didn't know that he was the Sihing of Bruce Lee until I saw this! Amazing movies!

Thats good to know but did you not notice that there are a seperate thread for each Ip Man film on this very section of the message boards?

he was actually the sifu of bruce lee, calling someone's sifu their sihing is actually a major insult

^ this.

and you're a martial artist how?

Before you guys jump to some sort of conclusion, I live in Thailand. My master's thai. I refer to him as "Aajaan", a thai word for master. I am not taught to refer to teacher in Mandarin or Cantonese so I did my own research on it myself and learned it. Doesn't make me familiar since he doesn't tell me to do it.. Plus, I'm sorry, but what I meant to say that Bruce Lee was his Sihing.

Mistakes happens. I type the way I talk. Don't tell me you guys never let your mind wander around while you're typing and mistakenly written something wrong before.

I've seen the first one and I honestly have to say: I'm not impressed. Hong Kong/Chinese movies are usually Jingoistic by default but this kinda takes the cake. The plot doesn't really tread anywhere other superior films haven't and, unlike Heroes of the east and Fist of legend did, the japanese are monsterious thugs and the chinese are peaceful demi-gods. Did they just go back twenty years?

I'd have let that slide except that the film is so mundane overall. Ip Man throughout the film never fights one single guy who can give him a decent fight and I feel no connection to the matches when it's so flipping one-sided. I know Donnie Yen loves it when he's always looking cool and badass, but it's extremely detrimental to the film, not as much as with Dragon Tiger Gate, but still pretty bad.

I really don't care enough to watch Ip Man 2 unless it's high and bounds better then the first one. I really was hoping this film brought back that magical sense of classic HK Action Films from the 80's but I guess I'm out of luck.
