Really, they're typically under $10 and it just might save your home. Unfortunately for us, the two that we owned are long gone but we caught the fire in time to keep it from spreading too much but we're still looking at a couple of thousand in damages since we'll have to replace the bathroom vanity, floor, vent and who knows what other damage was done until the smoke clears out.

Seriously, buy a $10 fire extinguisher because you never know when stupid fires will happen. For us it was when the bathroom vent fan siezed up and caught on fire sending the plastic cover portion down to the floor on fire catching the vanity, throw rug (well toilet rug) and floor on fire. Only reason we caught in time was because I don't sleep well without my box fan on and it turned off when the fuse blew due to the fire. If I didn't wake up immediately when it turned off we probably wouldn't have caught it until it was too late. And using water to toss on the fire was bad because it caused more smoke to billow out. Least we can stay in our home and not move out and not lost too much (smoke damage in the bathroom probably destroyed my girlie things) and we won't know if our bedroom furnishings are smoke damaged until later once the room airs out.
I'm glad our next door neighbor is a cop (he told my mom to stay out of the house or she'd be arrested).
