What's the show about?

Would'nt want to hijack the thread, but....

Sliders is a series centering on the journeys of a young scientest, playedby Jerry O'Connel, who discovers the gateway to alternate worlds, hes' given a device by an alternate world double when he acheives this, and gathers two collegues to travel with him on his first attempt, unfortunatly, he opens the entrance wormhole too large and it swallows up a travelling singer, so hes' stuck with 'em (ironiclly, hed be the last remaining cast member left by the end of the series), the device malfunctions shortly after during an escape from communitists in a russian-dominated Earth, and they basiclly bounce around alternate universes trying to get home.

Developed by Tracy Torme for its' first two seasons, Sliders was an entertaining, and thought provoking annilisation on the concepts of unknown possibilities and possible reallistic expectations of what could occur in the modern world one day, or if it had been given a chance, of course this is the kind of thing that gets a series cancelled. Three times.

Sliders' third season was a farce that parodied a dosen movies (with one of the only exceptions being the excellent "Double Cross") and killed off a regular before being cancelled, Sci-Fi Channel ressurected it, but with David Peckinpah in charge. O'Connels' brother was hired atthe request of the star, and another regular was written out. They also started fighting world jumping aliens.

I always compare David Peckinpah to Kalish because he also implemented a bunch of retarded ideas to get around the lack of a representation for Mallory when O'Connel left the series in protest over his brothers' firing. To replace him, Peckinpah developed the idea of Quinn and an alternate world double merging together as part of a scientific experiment.

I'm aware that they're quite similar, but again... I just dont' approach it like that.

Different characters, different worl.... that's how I approach it. SPD is SPD. Deka is Deka. Trying to hold one up to meet the merits of another just serves no point to me.

WOW!! I wasn't expecting so much detail!! I didn't know it was a science fiction show, I thought it was gonna be one of those cheesy American sitommy type things!! :P Oh well, I might check it out oneday..

but meanwhile, onto SPD!! :D

EDIT: By the way, has it finished already in the US? In the UK it's like just began!!

Yeah, it allready ended. Trust me you'll like it. But the ball of light....we don't blame you if you do like him :P

So far I watched..

Beginnings Part 1 and 2
Sky, Bridge and Syd become the Power Rangers, Sky pissed off that he's the Blue Ranger not the Red Ranger, 2 criminals Jack and Z get arrested for stealing things for poor people, but later get offered jobs as Power Rangers as Doggie Kruger "sees potential in them", Z the Yellow Ranger, Jack the Red Ranger, Sky pissed off that Jack is the Red Ranger because he thinks he's a crap leader..

Confronted
Jack taking too much pleasure out of being the leader, making Sky more concerned, Jack has his morpher taken off him by Kruger, the 4 Rangers go out to fight the enemy that has been sent down by Emperor Grumm but are having difficulties usung their zords, Jack begs Kruger to give him the morpher bvack, Kruger is like "oh alright!!" and hands back the morpher, "Delta Megazord" is combined monster is destroyed, other Rangers accept Jack as Red Ranger though Sky is still unhappy..

Good Bits: Interesting Storyline (although it seems almost the same as DekaRanger), some pretty cool fight scenes (I liked the bit with Sky Bridge and Syd chasing after Z and Jack), pretty cool theme tune too, some good comedy there too (Jack trying to prove he's a better Red Ranger, but mostly being a lazy git and taking too much pleasure out of being a leader :P),

Bad Bits: Doggie Kruger in SPD looks crap compared to the one in DekaRanger. In DekaRanger he looks more like a dog but in SPD he looks like a cross between Barney the Dinosaur and Michael Jackson. The villians are a bit dull and hurried up, Emperor Grumm is one of the lamest villians ever, Mora and her British Accent.. Z looks damn ugly compared to Ayumi Kinoshita, Syd doesn't look too bad (though blonde isn't my ideal type :P).

So far not too bad. A little in between I'd say, but seems WAY better than Nusance Storm and Dire Thunder. Maybe Forever Red was right about Bruce Kalish after all. I guess I'm willing to watch the rest of the series to see some interesting stuff I missed.

Oh, in the 3rd episode, did anyone notice a Red Ranger's foot even though Jack wasn't morphed?!! :P

You get used to Anubis, and if you have an open mind you might even find you like him better than the original Doggie. There's just a lot more to Anubis.

SPD's got a lot of good and a lot of missed potential.
