Who would you like to see Direct a new film, and what would the story be about?
It would be a Takeshi Miike film.
SciFi Japan has lots of info on the 3D movie: http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2007/08/07/the-long-evolution-of-godzilla-3-d/There was rumours that there 3D version this year, but don't think is true.
This is becoming something of an urban legend. It came from a report on the Monster Zero website with the headline "Godzilla to Return in 2013?":Last I heard , Toho won't start back with Godzilla until 2013.

However, if you read the article, the actual quote from producer (now Toho president) Shogo Tomiyama is "Godzilla's longest absence has been 9 years. It'll be about that long this time, too" while it is an editorial remark from the Monster Zero website that claims "in other words, by around 2013".
No one at Toho ever said Godzilla would be returning in 2013. All Tomiyama was the absense this time would be "about that long" again. That's a very vague comment, and Toho aren't going to commit themselves to a date if the market isn't ready for another Godzilla movie.
Recent kaiju films such as GODZILLA: FINAL WARS, GAMERA THE BRAVE and MONSTER X STRIKES BACK have all performed under expectations. Even foreign monster films such as THE HOST and CLOVERFIELD didn't perform as well as expected in Japan. Bottom line: there isn't really an audience for kaiju films in Japan right now.
Anyway, when Godzilla does return, I have no specific desires for the screenplay. Only that it's good. My picks for directors would be Shusuke Kaneko, Takashi Yamazaki, Takeshi Yagi or Yuuichi Abe. Of course, who knows what other directors will emerge in the mean time...
