I wanna watch some mecha anime...

But I don't want any of the crap I hate about anime, which is emo kids, half-assed philosophy and endless talk about politics. I just wanna see some robots kick each other's asses. I've heard that Gurren-Lagann and GaoGaiGar would be good for that, anything else? Also, are those shows fansubbed and by what groups?

Thanks guys

If you can get past how much fans overrate Gurren Lagann then it'll be good for your needs. Judging by the two you stated I'm guessing you want the Hot Blood Mecha stuff. Go for G Gundam, Mazinkaiser and Mazinger Z, anything Getter Robo, and Godannar.

For the non-hotblooded stuff but just pure Super Robo action, go for alot of the classic Super Robot stuff like Raideen or Zanbot 3. Giant Robo The Animation is good aswell, also do check out Voltron. I would recommend The Big O, but it has some of that half-assed philosophy stuff, but it makes up for it with Bruce Wayne.

Gurren Lagen is like the Naruto of Mecha

You may have already seen them, but I would recommend looking into Macross and Macross Plus. They aren't exactly "giant mecha" anime, but they've both got great characters and storytelling. There's some romance/love-triangles and what not, set before the back drop of war, but it's nothing I would classify as being "emo." Macross Plus is pretty short. Only four parts across two DVDs, so at the very least check that out if you haven't already.

I know a little bit about Macross from that Robotech game from a few years ago, if it's as short as you say I'll probably check it out. I'm starting a GaoGaiGar torrent right now.

I loved Big O when they showed it on Adult Swim a long time ago. I loved having Bruce Wayne in it and I don't remember much else, just that I loved it.

You should also check out the Patlabour movies. I haven't seen the series, so I can't really comment about them. But the movies are pretty decent, avoid 3 though that one was crap.
