A pandora batter basically puts your psp into service mode, it was initially designed to unbrick psps with the help of a magic stick, but it also alows previously unflashable psp firmware to be flashed to a cwf. the nice thing about using a pandora for installing cwf.. is if you mess up and brick it, you can usually fix it by making a magic stick (which can be made in winxp/dos) and using the pandora/magic stick to unbrick it

the service tool battery is legal, what people do with it is another story XD

as for where to get one, there are three options, have someone with a cfw psp make you one, had mod a battery (not an option unless you're comfortable enough to remove and re-solder pins in your battery),or you can buy a service tool converter here which lets you flip your battery to and from a pandoraized batter with the press of a button. the magic cfw sticks can be found in various places, but you should be able to find what you need at pspmod.com

The battery will work with any of the fat PSPs and some of the slims, but recently Sony released a PSP that has a new motherboard which blocks out the Pandora Battery. However, there's some people that are already working on this and making new files for the magic memory stick so it's not really that big of a deal.

But yeah, the older the PSP, the easier to hack. Doesn't matter which firmware is on it.

Likewise. To substitute my old battery, I bought a new 3.6v battery that give the PSP like...6-7 hours of battery life.

I've been installing CFWs on other people's PSPs ever since.

Same, I actually keep my pandora and magicstick in my glove compartment on teh off chance someone i know wants their psp modded while i'm out doing stuff

I actually bought one of the new ta-088 PSP slims in Akiba this past week and only found out afterwards that the current Pandora files don't work with it. However the "PSP community" said that the new version of Dc for the Pandora will be released once they finish the new interface and such.

I have faith in them as they've pretty much hacked all PSPs up till now, but at the same time I'm pretty nervous if they don't.

I should've bought my slim from this used game shop down the street instead of at Yodobashi Akiba...

The media manager isn't really necessary, there's nothing that it can do that can't also be done with freeware programs. you can encode and convert with redkawa's pspvideo9, the file manager can be done through the standard windows interface, and the usb cable is the same cable you'd use for a digital camera or a ps3 controller. it makes them convenient by putting them all in one place for you.. but it's not really worth the money.

You mean Sony's all in one PSP Media Manager is WORTHLESS?!?! and it doesn't have everything I want?
