How did 'In Space' manage to save the franchise?

A solid storyline and believable, sympathetic characters. Astronema and Ecliptor were the best characters on the show. At first I thought they were completely evil, but as the show continued on; we see a new side to them that almost never happened in previous seasons. Also, Darkonda was badass as well, he's one of the first PR villains to have his own agenda. It also marked the end of a era where previous PR villains would continued on into the next season. Pretty much, everything up to that point was said and done.

It turned Power Rangers in to a Universe that one could travel around in and have an adventure.

Made the PR land/spacescape something that could be traveled there and back and allowed one to see all the heroes, allies, and sites along the way.

Didn't make it just a series of monster attack situations, but a full realized world of adventure.

A line as simple as, "You're Planetary Rangers... what do you know about Space?" was simply awesome.

PRiS saved PR because of it's epic promos. heh

It's funny how Megaranger was supposed to a "New Generation" sentai, and Space was the New Generation of Power Rangers. Because it pulled away from all that tommy, adam, kat etc. business and It discarded the soft exterior it had and the whole outlook for the viewers. There was no more, lets clean up the park because we're goodie goodies bullshiz. lol. That's where they took a more serious and dramatic turn as in, instead of having mini series and 3-4 parter episodes or plain filler, they had a straight up legit story from the get-go, and it unraveled as it kept going.

Space actually set the bar for PR. In terms of seriousness and story. I love space for that.
