Bio: Shinobu's best friend, Katsuo, was taken by Shocker months before Shinobu's own transformation. Katsuo was to become one of their monsters, but not a Rider. Somehow, Sinobu managed to escape the notice of those sent to abduct Katsuo, and he immediately tried to find out more about the people who had taken his friend.
He would not have gotten far had it not been for the resources of Katsuo's lover, Akiko, who was the first to believe him. (During years prior to this, Shinobu and Katsuo had fought over her, and the two were still close.) Together, they gathered others who had lost friends or family to these strange occurrences or seen monsters lurking, and indeed found out about Shocker.
Shinobu, among others, was sent to try and bring them down. No authority figure believed their story, so the plan was to set a large homemade bomb near the reactor that powered the base.
Victory seemed at hand. Shinobu had managed to slip inside, though the rest of his team had fallen. (At this point, he had undergone long, maddening months trying to find Shocker, while building his skills for this purpose). He reached his destination and set his bomb.
At that moment, Akiko came in, telling him to stop. She told him that everything was okay, and she'd found Katsuo alive. They could all escape together. For a moment, Shinobu believed her. But then the trap was sprung, and Shocker Troopers surrounded him.
However, Shinobu surprised Akiko as well. He set off the bomb right there, bypassing the timer that had been meant to give him escape time. She had never known him to be the type to be that dedicated.
Unfortunately, several problems stood between Shinobu and victory. One was that what he knew of Shocker didn't even scratch the surface, and the building he damaged was largely unimportant. The other was that the bomb he'd been given was much weaker than he'd planned on. Rather than cause a catastrophic meltdown, the damage caused was quite repairable.
Others from Shocker investigated the bodies and found that Shinobu had survived, though his body was quite damaged. Akiko had been severely burned down her front, and both had received quite a bit of radiation from the leak that had been caused. But both were salvageable.
Though damaged, the young man's attempt showed his promise, and it was decided thathe should be made into Rider. He was given a new, radioactive belt and modeled after a cockroach. Shinobu couldn't really remember anything as it was, but it seemed a cruel irony to use him against for everything he'd worked against, starting by having him destroy the rest of the resistance movement. Akiko was also altered and paired with him, partly because she knew him and so should be able to control him, and partly because she'd caused the mess with her sloppily laid trap.

Design: Her suit's design is based on that of a praying mantis and includes a jumpsuit, barbed gloves, and a mantis-based mask, all set in tones of dark green and black.
Appearance: A petite girl with long black hair tied in twin-tails. She has large black eyes that give her an innocent appearance, but usually has a confident smirk on her face instead. She likes to wear fashionable clothes, particularly ones that go with her favorite hat, which she has taken to wearing even more often and with the addition of a mask since she received her burns. Around her mouth she isn't very scarred, so the mask doesn't cover the bottom of her face, but she does have severe scarring above that and on her legs, chest, arms, and stomach. She also has taken to wearing elbow-length gloves, as well as boots.
Bio: Akiko knew Katsuo and Shinobu since high school and into college. She was pursued by both, causing quite a bit of animosity between the two friends. However, they didn't allow this to destroy their friendship, and Akiko eventually decided on Katsuo.
However, her first loyalty was to Shocker, as her father was one of their scientists. When Katsuo was chosen she was torn but accepted it. She was even willing to pretend to work with Shinobu in order to find those who had some idea of what was going on and had managed to escape.
