Has Hollywood been too dependent on remakes?

The more I think about it. There have been too many Hollywood remakes on classic shows, comic books, anime and movies lately. Now Tekken is getting one. I'm wondering if this is too much. What do you guys think?

I don't have much of a problem with remakes, i just don't like them when the matirial was so good in the first place and could still hold up in todays standards.

Adaptions on the other hand are a real hit and miss with me (usually they are a miss).

they mostly suffer from two things IMO.

1)Writer and director have no clue on what the source matiral is and usually do it for a quick payday.

2)Writter/Director are fans, but will try to make the movie in the way they believe it should be.

anyways, I dislike both remake and adaption as it kills any original idea in Hollywierd.

The problem is that there aren't any new ideas anymore; everything that can be done has been done in some way or another. It's never been a situation Hollywood can resolve, either, because the entity of "Hollywood" itself is just a money-making machine. The only hope we have for quality films in the future is from breakthrough writers, independent filmmakers, and directors that have enough status to be above production company rule.

I don't mind remakes as long as they are good. Like Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I have no doubt that Hollywood will do a remake of The Godfather. At this rate, it's very likely.

There's a remake of The Karate Kid coming up...it's probably a really unnecessary remake but im gonna watch it anyway

Three things
You're implying adaptations and remakes are something that's been going on in such a widespread amount only recently. Well It isn't. Adaptations and remakes have been going on since the 30s, even some of the most remembered and acclaimed films were adaptations (Gone with the Wind, The Grapes of Wrath, etc.). It's something thats been going on since the dawn of cinema, it isn't going away any time soon.

And Tekken has been in production for years and its an independent production not a Hollywood production.

I don't have a problem with adaptations (remakes on the other hand I'm not so fond of), yes sometimes they are pretty unoriginal but originality is something thats been lacking in story telling for the past decade, give or take a 4 or 5 years.
