Joystiq has learned that the previously rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations.

The Halo: Combat Evolved remake is allegedly being developed by New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, the company behind TimeShift and Namco's upcoming Inversion, but we've been unable to confirm the nature of the engine powering it. We understand that it's something other than the Reach engine.

The Halo: Combat Evolved update, one of two Halo games currently in development under the watchful eye of 343 Industries, is expected to support 1080p resolution and 3D televisions. Details on multiplayer are supposedly still being worked out, but we understand the remake will likely feature online co-op (the original game supported two-player split-screen co-op).

The game is expected to re-evolve on November 15, 2011, ten years after Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the Xbox. Our sources didn't know of any plans to similarly upgrade the recently disconnected Halo 2, but it's hard to imagine Microsoft playing favorites with its biggest franchise.

Hmmm.... I don't know how I feel about this.

On the one hand I say "remakes can go **** themselves."

On the other hand I can't deny that the final run my friend and I made at the end of that game was one of the most exciting things we've ever experienced. We got the Warthog stuck and had to run the rest of the way on foot just barely making it out.

Dunno how I feel about wanting to do that again co-op online....:sly:

But you'll be doing that final warthog scene in....HD!!!!:P

But yeah, I honestly can't say I'm surprised that they'd do a remake.

WOOOOO NEW JERSEY!!

That had to be pretty fucking sick. When my cousin and I did that scene, I was on the backset of the Warthog, shooting anything chasing us until we had to abandon the Warthog. We couldn't finish because I kept making us laugh quoting a familiar Aliens lines.

"We're finished! We're done! Game over, man! Game over!!" Every time we'd **** up with the Warthog, I'd do that out of the blue.

Let the brand milking continue. Beat that horse till its dead then beat it again for more profit. You already have a legion of brainwashed morons that call themselves gamers. Be like Nintendo.

On the other hand I did like Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes more then the original. But yeah don't much care about halo. I bought the others has a small time kill when I had money to burn and it was a dry month. But that was it so yeah I'll try not to get this one.

How's that high horse? Pretty high up there? Maybe you should get off that high horse. I mean unless you want to sound like one of those elitists that think they are the only ones who can decide who gamer is or is not.

Hey, if you've made a best selling anything that the masses flock too, wouldn't you like to milk it for all it's worth too?

True, you can't really argue with the money it makes. But I'll agree it is a little bit pitiful that they're making a remake so soon. I would have at least given it a few years of no Halo at all to do it.

Still, I guess we'll just have to see what they do. If it's just an HD carwashing and co-op, I'm not sure people will buy in. Alot of Halo fans buy the game for the multiplayer as much as, or possibly more than, the single player. I'd imagine it'd have to at least get roughly the same amount of love and polish that Halo Reach's system did to compete. Unless they're relying entirely on nostalgia.

I dunno...I think the timing just stinks. It just feels too soon. Otherwise? Sure. give it a shot. Just not sure if it'll be worth the money.
