PARTY HARD
This video made my 2-hour break more meaningful. XD
The thing about making a prequel is that, yeah, it does ruin every little bit of imagination you can come up with and calling it a prequel. Sometimes, it's dangerous to run with a prequel (I'm afraid of what Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep will be...).
But as a story writer and not a hardcore Halo player (not going online, not going mutliplayer, etc., just beating the story is fine for me...except the Flood...**** the Flood), I feel that this kind of prequel is a good thing after playing and dabbling with Halo 3. At first, you had the Covenant and Flood later on (Halo). After that, you delve into the world of the Covenant (Halo 2), where not only the Covenant (for humans and some stages of the Covenant) are the enemies, but also the Flood AND the Brutes. After that, it's strictly Brutes and Flood (Halo 3), which takes it away from the first game.
Now, I don't go deep into the Halo verse such as novels and such, mostly because I don't like reading books. Just comic books...mostly manga. But I still remember how well designed each of the Halo games were as a story (though a bit disappointed by the ending...), and bringing back the Covenant in a state in which, and I quote from the video, "You don't know what the Covenant are saying," not only brings back nostalgia, but then you are fighting them KNOWING what will happen in the later games.
...I don't know why, that last part of the sentence doesn't make sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that mysteries are solved, yet still unsolved. You bring back the Covenant in a state of hostility and the mindset of enemies, but you don't act like a lone badass (Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson...I think his name was that), you play as a team who also probably won't die for plot purposes.
...Now, can someone explain to me the story of ODST, because I don't have a 360 to play it on anymore....
I know how you feel. At times, i wanna read the novels for .hack that takes place after the games before G.U. or the Legends of the Twilight manga, or even after .hack//SIGN before the games. Buuut...
I don't like reading. XD

What's funny is that this post took me almost 30 minutes to type just to explain my opinion about prequel storylines...wow, I only take 30 minutes to post when I'm RPing....but wow...
I'm reading the novel, and it is pretty good. But I have a HUGE thing against prequels. I don't like knowing the end of a story and it give a feeling of a destiny already being set. I like the illusion of forging my own.

Ahh that sounds awesome, I've never read the novels but thought that it could ruin the games for some people, but that's pretty cool.
On another halo related note: I watched halo legends earlier and it reminded me how much more I want to hear about the halo universe XD
